Last month we mentioned a rumor that director David Yates had been asked to return to the Harry Potter franchise.
A new rumor has now surfaced
online stating that American director Michael Hoffman
will be directing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Mr. Hoffman has directed Soapdish, One Fine Day and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
An announcement will be made by Christmas, so for now, all we can do is treat this new information as a rumor and wait to hear the official news.
UPDATE: Both of these rumors have been debunked by Warner Bros.

I liked the movie One Fine Day, but I really don't know anything about Michael Hoffman. It's hard to say who would be a good director when you don't know their work!

Another rumor! I want to see what David Yates is like before I form an opinion, but I think it would be better to keep the directors to get a bit of continuity between the films.

Michael Hoffman's a pretty good director, but then again so is David Yates. I don't really know who'd be better for Harry Potter, but I am sure either of them would make the film well.

The only one of Hoffmann's films that I have seen is Soapdish, and it was very funny, but I have no idea whether he would be a good director for the Potter movies or not. If Yates does a good job with OOTP, and if he wants to do HBP, I hope it works out.

I've never heard of Michael Hoffman, so I'll wait until I see one of his movies to make a decision. However, if they do bring back David Yates, I hope he doesn't cut out as much as he did in GoF. That's really the only thing I didn't like about his directing. But beside that, he's pretty good.

That is a weird choice. Personally I do not know this director, they should stick with british directors more than american directors cause HP is British. Maybe I am wrong, the director, forgot his name, did a great job with the 1st two.

Never heard of him... though can't say I liked 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. Meh. Want David Yates to direct, or Mike Newell.

I dont know if i want this guy directing Harry Potter, Soapdish was kinda wierd...I really hope that if he does direct it, that it would be different from that movie. I do really like A Midsummer Night's Dream though. so maybe it wont be so bad if he was the director.

Interesting.......well I never heard of him but I`m treating this a rumour. I kinda hope yates stays to be honest...I have this weird felling that if a director stays he knows what he wants to put in the movies, like I think it`s better.
Should be some interesting news at christmas. Right now i`m waiting for..The OOTP trailer! :)

Each film has been better than the first in my opinion so I'm not too worried about who directs HBP as they seem to improve each time anyway.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see who is going to direct HBP. I just hope whoever it is keep up all the good work with the storylines and the actors!!! I really hope that all the actors stay with it for the last two movies. Good luck to whoever they decide to direct the movie!!

well i personally think that the person who directs the final two movies should be the person who started this whole Harry potter franchise, he was Chris Coloumbus.
