A sketch of the cover that was never used for the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban book by Cliff Wright is scheduled to go on sale this weekend for £8,500. Mr. Wright, who had input from JK in reference to the image of the hippogriff, was somewhat disappointed that this version of the cover didn’t make publication.
According to the article
:
The sketch shows Harry and his friend Hermione Granger on a hippogriff, a cross between a horse, lion and eagle. Mr. Wright said: "In some ways I prefer the sketch to what ended up on the cover. It's more dynamic: in the final version, the hippogriff is not moving quite so fast. JK Rowling herself faxed over an image of what she thought the hippogriff should look like."

That cover is ten times better than the one that ended up on the cover. I never realy liked it, the hippogriff just didn't look right. But that one is awesome and eye catching and the hippogriff looks real not just like some badly drawn bird.

I want it! *drools* So peeeeerdy! I love the cover that POA has anyway, pretty much exactly the same except the head isnt right at the front of the picture, same artist so kind of figures they drawrings would be simmilar just in different positions. The body looks too far away from the head though...but then again it is just a sketch so the final version would be amazing i bet...shame they never did it to a final version :( So with i had that much money to spend, make a good christmas gift to myself hehe!
...dont know how anyone can say the american versions better...pfft, the origional british versions so perdy with buckbeak, i used to sit there and draw him all the time *laughs* Same with the dragon on GOF actualy...love the animal drawrings, dont give the story away and are just so cool ;)
Marauding Mara, is the dutch cover the same as the british one?

I have asked Santa to add this to my stocking but somehow I don't think I will be seeing it in person.
I think that is wonderful that Jo takes such a hands on approach to everything about her books.

Very interesting how these things evolve. I would be fun to own it, but alas it will not make my Christmas list. I also like the US Grande-Pre picttures best.

Wow, well I wish I had 8500 pounds to spend on a sketch, I hope the money is going to charity! But if its the actual artist selling it, then probably not...

Considering there is no color in the sketch personally I can't tell which picture would look better on the original version of the book.

Well Thestral Eyes, I'm not sure if it's the same as the British one, but I see now that it's Harry and Hermione on Buckbeack instead of Sirius (on the Dutch PoA-cover).
Anyway, here's a link to the Dutch cover. Funny that I do know what it looks like, because I've never read it or even flipped through the pages. I always read HP in English ;)

Wow.. that is a lot of money. Sadly, I don't even have enough money to buy a car yet, let alone a $16,000 sketch! It would be amazing to own, if you had the money, that is. I think I prefer the one that made it on the cover, though.
