Once again a Harry Potter book has toppedopens in new window a poll for kids. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has been chosen as the top book in Scholastic's online poll "Kids' Pick For 2007" for 4th - 6th Grade readers.

The poll helped kick-off Read For 2007: Read For Life:

... the eighth annual worldwide read-a-thon to get kids excited about reading, created by Scholastic, the global children's publishing, education and media company, together with Reading Is Fundamental, the oldest and largest children's literacy organization in the country. On Friday, December 8, 2006, millions of children will join together to read for 2,007 seconds (approximately 33-1/2 minutes) and to commit to reading throughout the new year. Governors' spouses across the country, as well as teachers and librarians around the world will hold reading events celebrating the joy of reading on this day and every day.

What a cool fund raiser, and great program for the kids. I think that reading is very important, even though i didn't do much as a child, I wish I had read more, because i really enjoy it now. I just wasn't reading the right books, Harry Potter is what got me into reading because it was the first book that actually kept my interest.

Very impressive. It appears that a strong track record continues. JKR must be very proud of the effect that she has had on some many children.

Well, I definitely agree it's a MUST-read, but I think it's iffy to put it on the list without noting that you really should read the previous books in the series first. It'd probably be hard to enjoy by itself, but good job on making the list anyways. Never enough promoting of all things Potterverse!

What about eleventh graders like me? And university kids too? Haha, that sounds fun. I'm goign to read for 2,007 seconds too! I hope I can find the time. Of course I can! That's just over half an hour! I have to wait until the 15th or 16th though, after those dreadful exams. Hmm. Reading's awesome, but it's just so funny... governors' spouses, cause they have nothing to do! Haha, okay I'll stop now.
