Once again a Harry Potter book has topped
a poll for kids. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has been chosen as the top book in Scholastic's online poll "Kids' Pick For 2007" for 4th - 6th Grade readers.
The poll helped kick-off Read For 2007: Read For Life:
... the eighth annual worldwide read-a-thon to get kids excited about reading, created by Scholastic, the global children's publishing, education and media company, together with Reading Is Fundamental, the oldest and largest children's literacy organization in the country. On Friday, December 8, 2006, millions of children will join together to read for 2,007 seconds (approximately 33-1/2 minutes) and to commit to reading throughout the new year. Governors' spouses across the country, as well as teachers and librarians around the world will hold reading events celebrating the joy of reading on this day and every day.

Congratulations HBP! It definitely deserves to be on the top of the list, and of all lists, really. I wish we got 2,007 seconds to read HBP at my high school.

Why does that not surprise me? Of course HP topped the polls (again!)! Number 1, it has a fabulous author (Ms. Rowling), 2, they are very. very descriptive, and 3, they let you escape your own life. Whoo HP!!!!

It's always awesome when Harry Potter wins something. I'm surprised that so many kids that age enjoy the book. I mean, I don't think I would've understood all of the complexities that are in the last few books, but whatever. I'm glad Harry Potter won.

2007 I'm planning on reading all of the books in preperation for book 7.
Yes I agree book 6 is a must read. Although some 4-6 graders may need a parent to answer some questions anout the content.

What a great idea to encourage reading with students (doing the 2007 seconds of reading thing.) LOVE that HBP topped the list, as it should. These books do so MUCH to encourage reading - it's fantastic!

Well that's pretty cool that HP is now being encouraged in school districts. But, I don't really see a 4th grader reading the HBP....I couldn't have been able to understnad it that long ago. I still don't even understand some parts of it now!

Well, it totally deserves it, in my opinion! But i'm not sure if a 4th grader can understand all the complexities of the book, or should even be reading it.
Frankly, i'd be hesitant about letting a 4th grade child read past book 3.
