In an new interview
with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix director David Yates, he comments on filming the movie, working with Dan Radcliffe and what the movie is really about.
There's a really interesting principle at the heart of this story. The ministry is this bureaucratic authoritarian regime trying to impose a fundamental doctrine on this liberal wacky school. The ministry isn't very good at accepting the beauty of differences. Everything has to fit in a box, and if it doesn't fit, it must be removed. The wonderful thing this story tells kids is that it's OK to be different.
I'm having the time of my life. It's like being at filmmaking gym. You're working every single muscle as a storyteller. These films are full of comedy, adventure and a bit of thrills. It's terrific.
The Newsweek issue will be on sale next week. Thanks to Andrew for the tip.

Finally - 'it's ok to be different!'. Does that mean no more sterotypes, no more preppy hermione, comic sidekick ron and typicl, almost-boring hero harry? I'm getting more and more excited by the day!

Cool comments, I hadn't thought of the book as exactly what he says, but something like it... I guess.. I think really the ministry is more evil than he makes them out, but, well, ok... Sounds ok... :)

That was a great description. I hadn't really looked at it from that angle. Maybe some of those anti-HP/HP book burners should think about that.

I think it is a good sign when the director is enjoying themselves during filming. I would think that that means things are going well. I hope we all like his vision of HP.

I really think that he is going to be the best director yet. No offense to the other directors or anything, but he just got to catch them all in the beginning stages of their actual acting careers.

At least he seems to understand the basis of the Umbridge storyline, but it's a bit worrying he's not mentioned anything about the darkness, Occlumency and Voldemort's slow-burning destruction of the wizarding world.

Is there going to be a new director for each movie? Well I guess that's good because they're getting different subjects in a way besides the Harry, Hermione, Ron. They'res the feeling of the movie which differs with the director.
