In an new interview
with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix director David Yates, he comments on filming the movie, working with Dan Radcliffe and what the movie is really about.
There's a really interesting principle at the heart of this story. The ministry is this bureaucratic authoritarian regime trying to impose a fundamental doctrine on this liberal wacky school. The ministry isn't very good at accepting the beauty of differences. Everything has to fit in a box, and if it doesn't fit, it must be removed. The wonderful thing this story tells kids is that it's OK to be different.
I'm having the time of my life. It's like being at filmmaking gym. You're working every single muscle as a storyteller. These films are full of comedy, adventure and a bit of thrills. It's terrific.
The Newsweek issue will be on sale next week. Thanks to Andrew for the tip.

Great! I'm lovin' this guy! I love Alfonso the best, but I really like this guy too. It seems Yates really understands Order of the Phoenix, which is my favorite book in the series. If any book has to be done exactly right, it's Phoenix. So far, so good! :)

I'd also like to add that I'm SOOOO happy that he seems to really be concerned about the more mature meanings behind the novels. He is treating it like a real work of literature (which it IS), unlike those who underestimate the novels and merely categorize them as "children's books". They are "people books". :)

Does anyone else find it incredibly frustrating?
I speak, of course, of the fact that the whole Harry Potter industry now appears to soley focus on the movies?
Yates speaks about the film as if it were Warner Bros. Creation.
"What the film is really about..." Indeed!!!

It´s OK to be different??? This is the whole message of OotP? I must have misunderstood something.
What has become of the "government denying inconvenient truth"-part? The "manipulation public opinion through the media"-part? The "changing the rules to maintain power"-part?
Well, there´s no denying it: It IS OK to be different.
