We have been receiving numerous emails letting us know that Borders book stores in Indiana and New York are now accepting reservations for the last Harry Potter book, even though no information has been announced in reference to the title or a release date.
From an email:
Here in Bloomington, Indiana, at the Borders Book Store at 2634 E. 3rd St, they are accepting reservations for Book 7. I was there for other business yesterday and was surprised to see the reservations sign at the information desk. When I asked about it, the manager said they couldn't take reservations yet because they didn't have a release date. I pointed out the sign to him, which he was surprised to see out. One of the other managers had written a note on the back that they were starting to take reservations, even though the release date hadn't been made public. They had also written a number (an SKU?), which he entered, and sure enough - put my name on the list. I don't know if this is happening nationwide, but the reservation process has at least started here.
Thanks to everyone who emailed and we will update with any additional information we find out.
On another note, a very interesting read can be found here
in which predictions are made on the last book in the series.

That's odd enough. They could wait over a year, and it'd be alright with them?

I love Harry Potter as much as the next HPANA member, but don't you think it is a bit early to be reserving book 7 considering that we have to say "book 7" since there isn't even a name yet, let alone a release date.

I'm not sure I will reserve it either. I'm excited about it coming out but also I'm not excited because I don't want it to end. Hopefully we get an actual release date soon.

This is really early to start reserving compies seeing as it probably won't be released until next July!
I wouldn't pre-order anyway, I would go and buy it the day it comes out.

What?! That's a little bit rash wouldn't you say? It's a bit to soon to be calling out the heavy artil. since JKR is barely I'm sure 3/4 of the way there without even a title. Well whatever floats your boat I guess.

Ahh... I would so reserve a copy...but I do not live in Indiana. It is kind of odd that they would be able to without a set release date, but hey.

I suppose I could reserve a copy at the Borders in Indiana considering I live just across the Indiana border in Chicago, Illinois...but that's a bit too desperate. I'll just reserve mine at a Chicago Borders or Amazon. Hopefully this all means we'll be getting a release date or title pretty soon. I'd be perfectly happy with either one. :)

Knowing about reservations is great. even though I knd of enjoy the madness at the midnight releases. You meet the most interesting people in those lines. :)
Predictions....they will announce the release date first (7/7/07 would be great since it's a Saturday), then we will get a title, and just like last time, the cover art comes last.

This news is awesome, but it brings out both the optimistic and pessisimistic sides of me. The optimistic side is cheering that we should probably hear the release date within the next month(and oh my gosh if we do I thought it would never come, this is so HUGE). However the pessismistic side of me says Borders seems to be jumping the gun a little bit.
Boy oh boy do I hope the optimistic side of me is right. Come on Book 7!!!!!

This is exciting! Even though we're getting no solid information, I'm taking this as a sign that we will soon be finding out more news. I won't be reserving a copy, because I'd have to drive about 70 miles away to the nearest Borders. Ha ha. Hopefully Barnes and Noble will start reserving copies soon, also.
