Reservations for book 7 being taken at Borders book stores Popular (16947)

We have been receiving numerous emails letting us know that Borders book stores in Indiana and New York are now accepting reservations for the last Harry Potter book, even though no information has been announced in reference to the title or a release date.

From an email:

Here in Bloomington, Indiana, at the Borders Book Store at 2634 E. 3rd St, they are accepting reservations for Book 7. I was there for other business yesterday and was surprised to see the reservations sign at the information desk. When I asked about it, the manager said they couldn't take reservations yet because they didn't have a release date. I pointed out the sign to him, which he was surprised to see out. One of the other managers had written a note on the back that they were starting to take reservations, even though the release date hadn't been made public. They had also written a number (an SKU?), which he entered, and sure enough - put my name on the list. I don't know if this is happening nationwide, but the reservation process has at least started here.

Thanks to everyone who emailed and we will update with any additional information we find out.

On another note, a very interesting read can be found hereopens in new window in which predictions are made on the last book in the series.

Oh, I can't think of a better Christmas present than to just have the release date of book 7!

I'm in Indiana - I guess I'll have to see if my Borders is taking pre-orders already, too!

Good lord, they are really going to milk this one. Oh well, if I lived in either place I'd no doubt put my name down on the list. How can they do that with no information?

Ive never even heard of this Borders store. I guess it is a bookstore in the states? I think this is a good sign, in that things are starting to get going, but like alot of you I think that we have to be cautious. Jo problably doesnt have anything to do with the stores setting reservations and such, so it may not be a sign at all. Push comes to shove, we just dont know, and that'll be how it is until we do hear something.
As for the linked article, It is interesting, but you could argue a few points, like when it says that Harry would die to protect others from Voldemort, so it wouldnt make sense for harry to refuse to return to his old life. The thing is, Harry is changing. What if he refuses to return to his old life because he feels like he can't .

Yep... I was in Borders yesterday (The Village Mall, Orange, California) and sure enough they had a sign/advert up saying the same thing. When I asked the clerk about it, she said that they had just started taking pre-orders even though the title, date of release, and price had yet to be announced. I told her that I was sure the next movie (OotP) would be out before-hand, and she said that she couldn't understand why they just didn't release the book since it was already written. (????????) I told her that she was mistaken and that Jo had yet to finish the book, but she seem unconvinced.

That's so strange. I also don't think it's entirely fair. I mean, what if JKR has a heart attack and dies tomorrow (God forbid) and the only copy of the manuscript gets caught in a fire? Then what?

Oh jeez, I never believed anyone when they told me I was a pessimist until now.

I do think this is a bit premature and over the top. Maybe it's a sign of great things to come very soon. And maybe the stores are just wanting people to come in to sign up and in the process buy other books....I don't know if my book store is doing this. And even tho I say the above I will prolly put my name on if they are doing it...well b/c it is HP.

While noone knows the release date yet, I'm sure this is a good sign that it will beout next year. Stores don't take preorders more than a year in advance s next summer is looking pretty likely/ I mean JKRowling had said earlier that she was really far into the book, and she had to have had an idea before of how ti would ed so the end should come out fairly quick. I'm guessing she told the publishers or whoever that she is close to done adn they told stores to expect a release date announcement soon or at least to expect the book next year, otherwise i don't think all these stores would have started taking preorders right now.Hope we get some more news on it soon.

Oooh, what could this mean? Ohh, this is so exciting! Okay, maybe it really doesn't mean anything. Maybe they're just taking in the pre-orders so that they have an idea of how many books to order. I wish I could do that. I hope they have the special edition out soon so that I can pre-order that too! Okay, odd behavoiur, but VERY promising. I want that book. Can you believe that I don't have the ordinary Scholastic version of HBP? Goodness.

I don't know why you need to reserve. Where I live they have hundreds of books on the shelves the day I came in, afternoon of the second day out.

As far as the 'interesting read,' I liked the format and theory of it. Most stories do follow a predictable plot line, it's just filling in the little details, which of course make or break a story. I'm sure we will all love what JKR does with this.

MWbashfulAR says:

Okay, it has been announced by publishers that the book will be available in July as these posters were reported as having July printed on them. The odd thing is Rowling has been ungloriously mum about this book and we know next to nothing about it really, she hasn't revealed any new character names, no excerpts, no chapter titles, no hints whatsoever. There hasn't been a title released yet, much less an actual solid release date.

Now technically she has until April to finish the book and still have it ready for a July release! OotP was announced as being completed and a release date was announced and this was in March I believe with a June release date. She has time. But I think she's really close.

I think Christmas she's gonna come out with it all and say, "Okay, here's the final title, I'm done with the book, I cried like a baby for five days when I was finished, I changed the ending twice, then, I cried some more, then, I wrote a few more sentences and finally I could cry no more and I decided I was done." I think that day her publishers will announce a date (July 7, 2007) and then within a week or so we'll finally see the book cover and all will be right with the world.

Except that strange fact that once we have the book in our hands that night, once we're riding back home to go read for several hours straight, once we're enveloped in the story and haven't a thought to stop reading, just to savor the moment, we'll be done before we know we've really begun. We'll have read the final sentence, crying just as Rowling had, and depressed that although we now know the full story and all the ends have been tied off neatly - the truth about Snape; Harry's fate; what the remaining Horcruxes are - we will finally know these answers, but it will be over with no promise of a few years' wait for the next installment. There will be nothing left except the wait for the film versions of our beloved books and the hope that Rowling will continue writing, even if it is under a pseudonym, and that those books will grip us just like the Potter books did.

I just figured out something amazing harry is actualy a horcrux himself that is why voldemort took some of his blood to restore himself to kill him, he could have used almost anyones blood as his enemys to restore his body but he had to use harry's to restore the other part of him! Oh also thats awesome books are onsale I can't wait until they sell them where I live!!!!!

Also, I meant to mention that I saw online that you can sign up your email with Borders and be emailed as soon as the release date is announced. I did that. But I don't ever pre-order. I go into the store early in the day of the Midnight Party and make a reservation so that I can return that night for the Midnight Party and be one of the first in line to purchase the book right then and there at midnight. There's nothing like going to the Midnight Parties because they're just filled with HP Lovers just as crazy as you are, because who else goes to buy a book at midnight? Clearly that says something about your character as well as your interest in the series! I've been to two of them, for OotP and HBP. I'm bringing my camera this year to capture it because it's truly a sight to see!!!

Oh also another reason why harrys a horcrux is he takes the most prized moments in his life and makes them into horcruxes nobody ever survived the killing curse including harry, he never even attempted it on him he turned harry into a horcrux and with each horcrux he made he got less and less human then his seventh (possibly eigth) horcrux he just lost being a human altogether, and when he killed harry's parents... a prized moment in his life he decided to make the kid he didn't think would overthrow him a horcrux I think he thought it would be Neville who over threw his evil empire, but needed insurance incase he was killed so he made the other boy a horcrux, and it resulted in him not being able to kill him, but harry made him look bad, he made a name for himself more famous than Lord Voldemort, so he got even angrier and put Neville aside until he could kill Harry which he tried to finish off in book 4 by killing the harder to catch Harry and then finishing off the one who was supposed to put an end to his empire, at the end of his story Ron, Harry, Hermione will have gotten rid of all of the horcruxs and harry and Voldemort will both use the killing curse at the same time and kill each other, ending the story with Harry no longer having his scar as he lay cold and dead on the ground.
