'Potter' books to stay on Georgia library bookshelves Popular (4200)

In a year long battle to remove the Harry Potter books from the shelves of the Gwinnett Public Schools in Georgia, Laura Mallory, who has not read the books, may appeal the decision after it was announcedopens in new window this morning that the books will stay on library bookshelves.

Ms. Mallory startedopens in new window her crusade in November 2005 and with constant decisions and appeals her last avenue, in which she will be able to present testimony from experts, will be the Supreme Court. Ms. Mallory believes the books foster:

... murder and greed and violence. Why do they have to read them in school? If parents wanted to get these books, they could get them in bookstores.

What a waste of tax payer money!! I'm so glad she lost, it never should have gotten this far to begin with. I think that once she started getting the publicity, she liked the attention and couldn't stop. This whole thing really makes me angry. Blessings! Hecate3fold!

Good! People that have not read these wonderful books should not deprive others!
She said that Harry Potter encourages violence and murder! that is not true!!!!!!!!!!!! Harry Potter is not very violent and it encourages children to try their hardest like Hermionie! like Harry all kids are made fun of at one time or another for not being cool( like he was at the Durselys.) Ron is an example for all of us because he is made fun of a lot for not having very much money and most kids are made fun of if they don't have money!
If kids want to read Harry Potter they should and some stupid lady should NOT be deprived of that!
besides if people did not want to read them so just buying them is not the anwser!
Thank You
~Allie~

Wow, I can't believe that that whole debate over whether or not it should stay on their shelves lasted for that long. Still, I'm glad that they decided to keep it.

What a nutjob. She hasn't even read any single part of any of the books. How can she possibly have any opinion on the subject. The courts keep ruling against her can't she get a clue and quit wasting their time.

It really is interesting how 99% of the people who are very vocal against Harry Potter have not read any of the books themselves. That's very ignorant.

Just wanted to add that "murder and greed and violence" are common things in books like Lord of the Rings and Narnia, which are well known for their religious bases. Now, if the book was told from Voldemort's perspective, giving the impression that all that he does is in the right than yeah, protest. Heck, I would protest. But what people seem to fail to understand is that Harry Potter is a story about Good vs. Evil and we all know that in stories like this, the good triumphs.

*Raises eyebrow* Most religious texts have more "murder, greed and violence" than the HP books.. Is she going to attempt to ban them as well?

*Smirks* I wouldn't be suprised if JK based Dolores Umbridge on this kind of woman.. Maybe if someone explaned who Umbridge was to Mallory, she would actually find somehting in common with the HP books..

She lost, she lost!!! Woohoo!!! She should have never even started that whole campaign against HP. I mean, I bet that when she heard the words magic and book, she automatically assumed that it was about satan and the black arts. I mean, she didn't even read them. If she did, I would bet my guitar(yes, guitar) that she would change her mind about the books. HP is about sticking to your friends, survival and teaches good moral values. If Harry Potter was about satan and black magic, Jo wouldn't have had Harry bring down Voldemort and evil in every book, we'd see HP preaching to Satan or something. This whole thing was crazy if you ask me.

What a pathetic woman! Murder greed & violence happen in every day life, unfortunately. simply not reading about it won't make the problems go away. I believe the Harry Potter books install good values, honesty, friendship and to study hard at school, in children. What books does this stupid woman want in Libraries? Only those for three year old children?

It's not like anyone is forcing them to read the books. It's their choice. And maybe the parents thought it would be better to be able to read the books for free from the library.

Spending a year of your life to get rid of books that you haven't even read is crazy. She should go get a life.

Oh, yeah! Murder, greed, and violence is all throughout the HP BOOKS! I can't believe this. Before now I hadn't heard about this case, anyway, it's nothing new, I'm sure alot of people want HP out of the schools. But why? Alot of the stupid people who dislike HP haven't even read them, yet they have all these bold proclamations about them, 'Harry Potter is about devil worshiping', 'Harry Potter is about violence', 'Harry Potter is about bla bla bla' =PP Seriously I don't get it.
