In a year long battle to remove the Harry Potter books from the shelves of the Gwinnett Public Schools in Georgia, Laura Mallory, who has not read the books, may appeal the decision after it was announced
this morning that the books will stay on library bookshelves.
Ms. Mallory started
her crusade in November 2005 and with constant decisions and appeals her last avenue, in which she will be able to present testimony from experts, will be the Supreme Court. Ms. Mallory believes the books foster:
... murder and greed and violence. Why do they have to read them in school? If parents wanted to get these books, they could get them in bookstores.

wow, this bothers me to no end. If this woman doesn't want her children reading the (wonderfully fantastic, in my opinion) Harry Potter books, then that's her choice. But other parents clearly aren't bothered by the fact they the books are in the library. So I say to this , shut your face and back off, woman, you wouldnt no a good book if it danced naked in front of you wearing Dobby's tea cozy!

Ha, I knew she wouldn't win!!! Sure, if she doesn't want her own kids to read it, she can control that, but why take the enjoyment out of it for everyone else who doesn't have the issues she has??? I'm glad she didn't win (not meant to sound spiteful or anything).

Oh, sorry for the double post, but she hasn't even read the books!!! And there are a lot of books that would be considered as bad as or worse than Harry according to her, so why not try to ban those books too??? And can she prove that Harry spawns any of that behavior??? Case closed!!!

Thats absolutely pathetic. Ms Mallory is a repulsively tight woman with nothing better to do with her time than pick holes at perfectly innocent people and items. Wake up and smell the coffee, you disgusting cow! reading, is one of the best ways to learn - especially for english - and as we have heard across the world, some kids did not read anything at all until they picked up a harry potter book! I know i didnt read that much!
Who else was a lazy reader until HP?
MS Malorys court case is absolutely absurd and she should go and throw herself in a ditch.

Every parent has the right to decide what is appropriate for their child to read/ watch. They do NOT have the right to decide that for everyone else! It makes me CRAZY. I hope this does go to the Supreme Court so it can be definitively settled that these books are appropriate and beneficial for American children to read in school and otherwise. Way to go, GA!

That woman needs to show proof that Harry Potter incites kids to use "murder and greed and violence," if she wants to win her case, which she'll never find because all the book does is inspire kids to read more. The Bible is more violent than Harry Potter for crying out loud!

Ah, thats so stupid. I don't even understand why people think its so offensive. Its just a book, this book gets more and more children to read each year. The increase rates of childrens reading has bee remarkable. They should be stacking all the Harry Potter books up and hoping everyone will read them.
Ah some people just take things so seriously =/ Its dissapointing.

Read the books then you can get them taken off, but without true cause then you should keep your mouth shut. If you read them you would know that it is not about teaching children to kill, be greedy or violent and besides ban television and just about everything else because those teach violence, too.

Thats lady is out of her mind... If she would just read the books she would see it dosen't "promote witchcraft or the Wicca religion"....It would be like I would not read the LotR books and say that they also promote witchraft and are a bad influence for young kids... Thats totaly propostries... Befre people stand against a book and say it should be removed from the libraries they should a least read it and not just go on what other poeple were saying about that book...

Wow... Gwinnett made front page. l0l. i go to Gwinnett schools. :[ and if it went her way, i'd probably have to go hunt her down. l0l. her kids go to the elementary school i went to. it wouldn't have been hard...
i probably wouldn't have done that anyway, but still. she was making me mad...
"Why do they have to read them in school?"
we were never forced to read them. it was our choice... she's making it sound like they're forced on us.
anyway, i'm glad this didn't go through. :]

I think it's lame when people try to get books taken out of libraries, they are just taking away from learning. Harry Potter does nothing bad to children's minds. People need to get over themselves.

I think they philosophize the story too much and put meaning into areas that they should not.
So I am glad she lost her appeal.

Okay. What part of "FIRST AMENDMENT" does this lady not get? If she doesn't want HER kids to read it, she can just tell them not to, like my aunt and uncle did with my cousins. (My dad told them that the books were OK, but by then none of them wanted to read them.) And "murder and greed and violence"? Uh, lady...these books are about GOOD versus evil, and about FRIENDSHIPS and ALLIANCES and GROWING UP, just with a good dash of fantasy thrown in. Geez...she's probably the person that tried to ban Black Beauty.
Sorry. I just wrote an essay on censorship for English class.
