Harry Potter book illustrator Mary GrandPré discusses
in an interview from December that she doesn't know anything about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and has not decided on a color for the cover. She also mentions that she would like to paint Hagrid in color and that her favorite book color is blue for Order of the Phoenix.
Thanks to Harry Latino

Well, we'd all like to see you paint Hagrid, too.
As for DH, this pretty much rules out any thoughts we might have had for a summer 07 release date. If she hasn't even begun to look over the material yet, we can't expect a cover as much earlier than HBP was, can we?

Ohh she's really good. too bad she doesn't know anything about the seveth book yet, and worse...since she hasn't done anyhing for it yet, it means that the release date is probably still far away...

Just in case nobody has noticed, this podcast interview is a month old. It was posted on Decemeber 14th which means it was recorded before that, so for all we know, she may have information on DH now.
This podcast was recorded before Jo announced to the title...

Harry(the 4th champion) says:
I have been wondering how the book cover is going to look like. But I'm sure it's going to look fantastic just like all of the others. Order of the Phoenix does have a wonderful book cover... but so do all the other books. if I had to choose I would not be able to because all the book covers are fantastic. But Harry does start looking better in the Order of the Phoenix cover.
But no matter how she decides to make the book cover I'm sure she will make it fantastic.

harry_potter_jul31 says:
I personally feel that the color of the book cover can either signify the color of death which is red or perhaps black (but red might be bad, hehehe) and its contents as usual must signify something imp occuring at the end of the book maybe like Harry dueling with Voldemort (but it would give the plot away), so something less revealing like harry looking at a horcrux...

Hmm, I'm wondering how long it takes to get from drawing to confirmed cover?
The thought around my friends was that the cover was going to be black or very dark. A simple colour scheme signifying both the darkness of the story and the end of the book series.

That's cool, the color of OotP is definitely great. I think Deathly Hallows should be a red/maroon, considering the name and we all know a main character is going to die. I think it would fit.

Well she'll have to know something about it eventually to do proper illustrations right? I think the last cover should be black with a silver lining. I think it perfectly alludes to the deathly hallows. I don't know, I just always pictured it as black.

She must be doing covers for the American version. Personally I've always preferred the British covers.
It's also kind of hard to hear her in the interview.

Maybe some blck white and grey with either silver or gold accents. (silver would look better, but gold would be appropriate for gryffindor)
