Harry Potter book illustrator Mary GrandPré discusses
in an interview from December that she doesn't know anything about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and has not decided on a color for the cover. She also mentions that she would like to paint Hagrid in color and that her favorite book color is blue for Order of the Phoenix.

I liked the most recent cover on HBP. I liked the whole green scheme. The blue fo OotP was really cool too though. But then again, all of the covers are pretty good.

I always look forward to seeing GrandPre's artwork for each new book. I have to say, the color scheme for OotP is my favorite too! I thought the cover of HBP was going to be red, but now I am thinking we may see red for DH.

I like the idea of all the books being different colors. With the different color lettering and such....but I think they've pretty much nailed every color haven't they?

Hmmmm, I think it should be.... A gray or gold... maybe.... or red. It's hard to decide what would be best. I also liked the OotP cover... *smiles* but then my favorite color is blue!

Ohhh yeah, she should put Hagrid on the book 7 cover no matter what! He definitely deserves to be there! And I agree; I think the book 5 cover is my favorite too. I love how it's pretty much a single color, unlike most of the other books except for maybe HBP, if I remember correctly.

*Humph* I thought she'd be giving us some hints about the final book. I guess even if she did know she wouldn't tell us, it's propably more than her job's worth.

I hope she knows more about the book soon!! I personally thinks her monochromatic covers for books 5 and 6 are her best; they really capture well the mood and themes of both books. I don't think she'll do a scheme in black though for DH though, too obvious. I like some of the ideas other people have come up with who posted, maybe silver or purple. Whatever it is, I have confidence it will be good; her illustrations are always interesting and fun.

She has done a great job in illustrating these books. I am sure it took a whole lot of imagination to first bring to life things that most of us would never have even imagined. She certainly helped us picture Harry and his world.

So she is unsure what colors she ought to select for the seventh novel? Personally, my two favorite choices are either a mixture of orange, red, and purple or dark green, dark red, and black; those two color formats would probably depict the ominious and climatic atmosphere of the book best.
So if you are reading this Mary Grandpre, I hope you consider those two possibilities! ^_^
P.S. Your work is gorgeous and is one of my favorite things about Harry Potter. I always enjoy viewing your heart. :)

Well, I can't say, that I adore the book covers of the english versions, but they're not bad. But of course she'll have to read the new book, before designing the last cover!

Hmm, interesting. It sound rather dark doesn't it...Deathly Hallows. I liked the green in HBP - even though I got the adult version..(it looked better hehe). Should be along the same lines i'm thinking. I say green's a jealous evil type of colour. I dunno, splash a bit of red to show anger? Well, we'll see.

I'd personally like to see the colors red and green used, but I guess that sounds a little too Christmasy.
I do however love her artwork for the books with HBP being my favorite. I even have her interpretation of the dark mark as a tattoo.

Very interesting. Nice interview. It was interesting to hear from the illustrator. Not the person you typically get to hear from whe interviews happen, unless the author is the illustrator as well.
I am fond of the OoP cover as well. Blue is my favorite color. But all of the covers have been awesome. I can imagine the Deathly Hallows being colorless. It fits the title and possible grim outcomes of the storyline. Can't wait to see!

That's funny because I like the OOTP one the best as well. not because it is blue but because it has the most people on the cover. I like to see what she thinks they should look like.
