According to a lawyer for JK Rowling there are currently no plans for an e-book version
of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to be published on July 21, 2007.
Ms. Rowling has previously stated
on her web site that only authorized versions of her books are available via print or audio and this helps with the "growing incidents of piracy."
You may remember that in January 2005 we mentioned
a site that was offering electronic versions of all six Harry Potter books, the sixth months before it was even published, so please be aware of sites that offer e-book versions of the series -- they don't exist.

That makes total sense. There are way too many pirates out that, and it's not fair that they make money off of someone else's work. JK Rowling is a smart lady!

I'm glad she turned the proposal down. HP e-books would be a horrible idea.
I personally hope e-books never get popular. I love reading books on paper, anything else just wouldn't feel right. If e-books ever turned into the new mp3, I'd be quite angry.

Good for her. I'd already read that article, but still. I think it's much more fun to actually read the books, it's kind of exciting to turn the pages by hand and feel the weight of the words in your palm.

I don't know how people can read books on their computer... it is so much better having a paper version that you can read wherever you want...

I'm not even sure what an "e-book" is.
I presume it is books that are downloadable online.
I would rather have a har copy of Harry Potter.

I forgot what an e-book is, but if I could guess then I would say it would be for an i-Pod I'm assuming then.

I've read one the last time there was a book coming out (HBP) and oh my good I kept it just to see that there was major differences between the e book and the book, so i'm not trying to search for a version that time!

No biggie. I wouldn't want to read an e-book anyways. I dont see the point in it. Makes sense that they aren't making one. There are way too many people out there thinking they can get off cheap and not buy the book. If you like something support it and actually buy it.

No real surprise on this. My guess is that it will take years before they let it out in that format. Too much opportunity for it to be distributed improperly.

They should make an ebook, in my opinion, of the book, for international fans. They are quite convenient.

Oh and adding onto my argument, e-books save the trees. Isn't there some way to make the e-book pages un-downloadable or un-printable or watermarked or something to avoid piracy?

That figures. I would much rather read it in paper-real-book-format (did that make any sense???) than online. Either way, I can't wait to get my hands on that book!!! Accio Deathly Hallows!!!!

I agree with Jo...her decision was good. Having a hard cover in your hands is so much more satisfying than scrolling down on a computer screen. Computer screens are also wicked hard on your eyes.
Reading from the book also encourages kids to pick up a book for the fun of reading rather then spending even more time on the computer.

I do not think that an E book would be a good idea, as it would be open to copyright abuse. I would much prefer to have a proper thick book in my hand anyway.

I kinda think it is a good idea for it not to be in an e-book. It is important to get people to just sit down with a good book and have a read. Not to mention that spending so much time reading in front of the computer really hurts your eyes and back ect..

I agree, there is so much mainia about the books that they could be forged and lessen the entegraty of the real books. Harry Potter deserves to remain in paper.

I am a little surprised at how miss-informed people are regarding ebooks. Yes, you can read them on the computer, but I agree that would be uncomfortable. There are numerous ebook devices available that are about the size of a paperback or smaller. I have ebook software on my pda and am able to carry numerous books around with me at once, including all 6 HP books. (I have also purchased each title in hard cover and two in audio – so don’t get your knickers in a knot!) I agree nothing is like putting my feet up in the recliner with a book, but it is also great when I am stuck at an airport to be able to read an old favorite.
In my opinion, JKR is missing an important outlet and revenue. I will order the hardcover book and most likely will have completed it on the 07/21/07 and I guarantee on 07/23/07, if not sooner, I will be able to google it and download an electronic version. I would gladly pay for a legitimate ebook copy if available, in addition to the hard cover.
