According to a lawyer for JK Rowling there are currently no plans for an e-book version
of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to be published on July 21, 2007.
Ms. Rowling has previously stated
on her web site that only authorized versions of her books are available via print or audio and this helps with the "growing incidents of piracy."
You may remember that in January 2005 we mentioned
a site that was offering electronic versions of all six Harry Potter books, the sixth months before it was even published, so please be aware of sites that offer e-book versions of the series -- they don't exist.

I am a little surprised at how miss-informed people are regarding ebooks. Yes, you can read them on the computer, but I agree that would be uncomfortable. There are numerous ebook devices available that are about the size of a paperback or smaller. I have ebook software on my pda and am able to carry numerous books around with me at once, including all 6 HP books. (I have also purchased each title in hard cover and two in audio – so don’t get your knickers in a knot!) I agree nothing is like putting my feet up in the recliner with a book, but it is also great when I am stuck at an airport to be able to read an old favorite.
In my opinion, JKR is missing an important outlet and revenue. I will order the hardcover book and most likely will have completed it on the 07/21/07 and I guarantee on 07/23/07, if not sooner, I will be able to google it and download an electronic version. I would gladly pay for a legitimate ebook copy if available, in addition to the hard cover.

Maybe it's because I am about 5 or 6 years too old for the big technology boom, but I really would not want an e-book. I find that I can get into the world of HP much better when there isn't a computer buzzing in my ear and my eyes aren't being burned through. But, as always, that is just my opinion.

It doesn't bother me that they aren't making an e book of Deathly hallows. As long as it cuts down on the piracy, then that's great.

Why would you want an E book. There is something special about having the book.
I'm sure some idiot will feel the need to but it on the web.

Very good! If there are e-books, the level of piracy will be sky high.... and that's really unfair considering all the work she has put into it.

An e-book would be cool, but nothing beats having a copy of the actual book. An e-book would not be as exciting anyways.

I wonder how they prosecute people that have false books or illegal websites selling an "e" version?

Hmmmmm... interesting that they are not going to do an ebook. However, I don't think I could ever be satisfied with just having Harry Potter on my computer. I would much rather have an actual book that I can hold in my hand. I guess that that makes me old fashioned. Oh well, you can not win them all.

Well thats not going to even slow it down. Just because they don't release it as an ebook doesn't mean that a pirate wont scan it in with adobe PDF and release it as has happened hundreds of times before, it's just very time consuming, but someone will do it.

I could see all the books being available online sometime in the future, when online security is better and there are standards for protecting online material, but it would be a very bad move to make DH available to download for a million reasons, one of which being financial, of course. I also agree that I would not enjoy reading HP on a computer screen!

I'm not surprised myself either. This is the final book and probably going to be the biggest seller out of them all. If an e-book was done I don't think it would do as well. JKR really deserves the best for this.
