Harry Potter book illustrator Mary GrandPré recently gave her thoughts
on the title of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and her feelings that the book is the last one in the series. She also discusses the process of illustrating the books and gives advice to illustrators.
Daniel: What do you think of the upcoming Harry Potter book's title, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?
Mary GrandPré: I don't know, I think it's just going to unfold as we all learn about what it means. I think it kind of leaves you wondering what this is about. I think it's intriguing; an intriguing title. I don't know what it means yet, and it sounds kind of scary. I don't know... I hope it means good things (laughs).
Daniel: What are your feelings and thoughts knowing that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the last book in the series that made you incredibly popular?
Mary GrandPré: I'm anxious for this to be the last book as much as I've enjoyed the journey. It's nice to kind of wrap it up and celebrate it as a whole and to just kind of look back and take a deep breath and go, "Whew! That was quite a ride!," so you know... I'm excited for it to end and to find out how it ends and yeah, I might be a little sad about it, but generally I'll be really happy that this check's closing and that I can kind of go on to other things personally and creatively. Yeah, so I'm happy about it, I'm happy that it has come to this point.

GrandPre is one of my absolute favorite artists and I can't imagine a Harry Potter book without her artwork gracing the cover!! Absolutely amazing!

She is a good illustrator. She sais she's had nothing to do with the success of hp, but there is alot of people out there that won't pick up a book unless it has an interesting cover. So, I think she has played some part in the popularity of hp.

The last opus of the series marks the end of the Potter saga, which also means -although many of us are eager for more -that many things will be accounted for, we will know at last the answer to some of our questions. Many others will arise however, and it is likely that some will remain unanswered. Personnally I would greatly enjoy an illustrated version of the books, I've always thought there was a highly interesting job to be done on that point.

I love Mary GrandPre's HP art so much that I have used her work for all of my HP tattoos. She is definitely the best HP book artist out there, although the Ukraine covers are also quite beautiful, I must admit! I'm glad she will have done the art for the entire US series run, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what she comes up with for HPDH!
