Earlier this morning the cover art for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was revealed on the 'Today Show.' Both Bloomsbury and Scholastic web sites have been updated with the art.
You can see the British covers here
and a large image of the adult version here
.
The cover illustration for thechildren's edition is by Jason Cockcroft, who drew the cover illustrations for the previous two Harry Potter books: Harry Potter and the Order of the PHoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The cover design for the adult edition is from a photograph by Michael Wildsmith, who has photographed all the adult edition jackets.
The inside flap of the British children's edition reads:
Harry has been burdened with a dark, dangerous and seemingly impossible task: that of locating and destroying Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes. Never has Harry felt so alone, or faced a future so full of shadows. But Harry must somehow find within himself the strength to complete the task he has been given. He must leave the warmth, safety, and companionship of The Burrow and follow without fear or hesitation the inexorable path laid out for him!
In this final, seventh installment of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling unveils in spectactular fashion the answers to the many questions that have been so eagerly awaited. The spellbinding, richly woven narrative, which plunges, twists and turns at a breathtaking pace, confirms the author as a mistress of storytelling, whose books will be read, reread and read again.
The back of the adult edition reads:
Harry is waiting in Privet Drive. The Order of the Phoenix is coming to escort him safely away without Voldemort and his supporters knowing if they can. But what will Harry do then? How can he fulfil the momentous and seemingly impossible task that Professor Dumbledore has left him with?
Scholastic has an interactive version of the cover here
.
According to Scholastic’s
Vice President and Creative Director, David Saylor (who has designed all the covers):
The front cover of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows features a dramatic sky of oranges and golds. It depicts 17-year-old Harry with arm outstretched, reaching upward. The structures around Harry show evident destruction and in the shadows behind him, we see outlines of other people.
For the first time the cover is a wrap-around. On the back cover spidery hands are outstretched towards Harry. Only when the book is opened does one see a powerful image of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, his glowing red eyes peering out from his hood.
You can view the reveal of the cover here
(Quicktime) or download here
(Windows Media, remember to right click & save target as ...). You can now also watch the video on the MSNBC web site
, thanks Hannah.
Canadian publishers, Raincoast Books, have updated
their web site with the artwork as well as options for pre-ordering the book.
You can see all the covers here
in our gallery.
UPDATE: CBBCNewsround reports
that the British version of Deathly Hallows will be 608 pages long, the second longest after Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Wow, the cover just triggers so many questions. Why is Harry's hand stretched out? Is he waiting for something to help him defeat Voldemort or is he dying? Is Voldemort dying or watching Harry die? Are they both dying? Where are they? Who are the mysterious people in the background? Ooh, maybe it's the people who have died to save Harry that are here to help him, like Dumbledore. Is he behind the veil? It looks like there's a curtain. Maybe they're both dying but Harry found someone to rescue him and bring him back. Voldemort looks like he's trying to block or hold something back. Harry's hand definately looks like it's waiting for something to fall on it. I wonder what it is!!!

I really like the artwork for the final book. I think it's kind of amusing though that HP looks suspiciously identical to Daniel Radcliffe.

For once in my life I like the U.S cover better. The UK one is good though. The Adult cover has Slytherin's locket on it, so that must be important. Oh I can't wait for the book to come out.

Ok, I am back from last night..
Are you guys SURE that the UK version is 608 pages?
Because the UK HBP was only 607 pages! And this means that DH is actually the third longest, not second!

Wow! So bloody good! I have to say I prefer the American version to the British one though this time. I'm now even more anxious to see this thing than ever before. The number of pages is almost identical to the number in the UK version of Book 6, so considering they are supposedly two halves of one book, this makes perfect sense! I'm already feeling a bit lost now though. What are we gonna do once we've found the answers to all the questions we've been asking for years and years? I hope she leaves some of them unanswered in a way, just so we can carry on speculating! *feeling excited, happy, anxious, and just a little bit sad...*

Alright. Lets get down to the nitty gritty. I'm analysing the UK cover here:
Hermione and Harry's arms are scartched, they appear almost bitten and the sores are round.
They look to be within a vault somwhere - Gringotts perhaps? THey are surrounded by precious jewels etc.
ARMOUR! their is a chest pate (I don't know the technical term) and a helmet with a dragon on top. These and a few other pieces are in a distinct silvery/blue. ALl pieces are inscribed with the dragon insignia. THe helmet appears quite Nordic to me (I'm not expert on armour though).
Other pieces that appear in the image include rubies and a few potion vials. There doesn't appear to be any other jewels except the rubies.
SOmething my eye was particularly drawn to was the sword Ron holds. It follows the theme of rubies, rubies being what is held in the Griffindor hourglass for house points.
The eyes of the characters seem to be extremely firhgtened of what is IN FRONT of them. If you look at the reflection in Harry's glasses it appears that there could be flame in front of them. All character appear flushed with heat.
Well. THere's my over analysis of the UK cover.
Too whoever asked which version Australia will get - we always get the UK cover and the Adult cover is also availiable.
Cheers!

I dont get this.... Why are there THREE pictures? There seem to be 2 for the kid's version.... One with the trio and one with just Harry....
But they're blood brilliant from what I've seen :D :D And there's a corner of Dobby's (I think its him 'cause of the pointy ears) ear and his hand holding a sword behind Harry!!
YAYYY!

O my God!! This is so exciting! All three cover versions are very intersting. On the adult version we see Slytherin's locket, the us version shows us Voldemort reaching toward Harry who seems to summon somthing in his autstreched hand and the uk children version shows us Ron Harry and Hermion in the midst of tresure, with gold and jewls. Behind them seems to be some kind of portal and Ron is holding a sword (perhaps Griffindors?). And we also see Prongs and a very big twistet snake in a cristal ball (perhaps Nagini?). Oh, I just can't wait to read it. And I'm so glad that the last book is longer than HP6!!!

I have been waiting all day for my chance to come on HPANA and get another look at this (I happened to be watching the Today show, so I did get to see it).
Who else is totally psyched?!
I can't believe it. I feel so vindicated. I said the Death Room would be important to Harry and Voldemort's coming battle. And now the cover actually seems to depict exactly that!
I. Am. Freaking. PSYCHED.

My god, all the questions that are raised just by the cover and the text on it!
What I noticed was Voldemort of course, a lot of gold and stuff around the trio, what does this mean? I think Ron is holding Gryffindor's sword. On the back of the children's edition is Hogwarts (is Harry going back there?) and some kind of sphere with snakes in it (Slytherin?). The amulet on the adult edition has an S on it too and with some imagination can be seen as a snake... What does of of this mean.
Since the last book we had a lot of questions and I think that the closer we get to July 21st it will only get worst. Still seems like ages before the book will come out. I can only hope that it will be worth the wait.

Ah,the excitement...
I like the artwork on both UK and US children's editions. It really captures the feelings about the last book and shows how very emotional it will be. And,of course,it raises some questions...
I have to admit I've never seen the adult versions of the previous books' covers. But this one is amazing and the (Slytherin?) locket looks just...precious. (I'd love to have it,hehe)

According to CBBC Newsround Deathly Hallows page count is 608 and it is second longest book. With 608 pages DH will be third longest book, because OotP is obviously the longest and GoF second with 638 pages. Something's wrong with that news.
I love the covers. UK children cover is my favourite but Mary GrandPre has made beautiful and mystic cover too and at the same time it's serene. Maybe the best covers of all time.
