Earlier this morning the cover art for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was revealed on the 'Today Show.' Both Bloomsbury and Scholastic web sites have been updated with the art.
You can see the British covers here
and a large image of the adult version here
.
The cover illustration for thechildren's edition is by Jason Cockcroft, who drew the cover illustrations for the previous two Harry Potter books: Harry Potter and the Order of the PHoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The cover design for the adult edition is from a photograph by Michael Wildsmith, who has photographed all the adult edition jackets.
The inside flap of the British children's edition reads:
Harry has been burdened with a dark, dangerous and seemingly impossible task: that of locating and destroying Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes. Never has Harry felt so alone, or faced a future so full of shadows. But Harry must somehow find within himself the strength to complete the task he has been given. He must leave the warmth, safety, and companionship of The Burrow and follow without fear or hesitation the inexorable path laid out for him!
In this final, seventh installment of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling unveils in spectactular fashion the answers to the many questions that have been so eagerly awaited. The spellbinding, richly woven narrative, which plunges, twists and turns at a breathtaking pace, confirms the author as a mistress of storytelling, whose books will be read, reread and read again.
The back of the adult edition reads:
Harry is waiting in Privet Drive. The Order of the Phoenix is coming to escort him safely away without Voldemort and his supporters knowing if they can. But what will Harry do then? How can he fulfil the momentous and seemingly impossible task that Professor Dumbledore has left him with?
Scholastic has an interactive version of the cover here
.
According to Scholastic’s
Vice President and Creative Director, David Saylor (who has designed all the covers):
The front cover of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows features a dramatic sky of oranges and golds. It depicts 17-year-old Harry with arm outstretched, reaching upward. The structures around Harry show evident destruction and in the shadows behind him, we see outlines of other people.
For the first time the cover is a wrap-around. On the back cover spidery hands are outstretched towards Harry. Only when the book is opened does one see a powerful image of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, his glowing red eyes peering out from his hood.
You can view the reveal of the cover here
(Quicktime) or download here
(Windows Media, remember to right click & save target as ...). You can now also watch the video on the MSNBC web site
, thanks Hannah.
Canadian publishers, Raincoast Books, have updated
their web site with the artwork as well as options for pre-ordering the book.
You can see all the covers here
in our gallery.
UPDATE: CBBCNewsround reports
that the British version of Deathly Hallows will be 608 pages long, the second longest after Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

I am sitting here at my computer crying. They are tears of happiness but also sadness because I know that the end of Harry Potter is near. Even thought it will live on in my heart forever I know that for many people out there Harry Potter will become a faded novel on their book shelves, just a distant memory of our childhood. Its just making me cry because after this the wait is over and Harry Potter is too..............

Wow. I wonder if Harry is reaching for a Horcrux, or he's been hit with a killing curse...(morbid, I know, and I'd hate for it to happen, believe you me!!)
I can't wait to read it!

Wicked! I an truly fastinated with the fact that there are so many different versions of the book covers available. Each version is intriguing in their very own ways. I am so excited to read this book. I can see myself ignoring everyone to read it. I hope I don't but I think I could.

The Scholastic cover looks incredible...the color scheme is totally great, in my opinion. It has a dooms-dayishness about it. Interesting that I don't see wands around...Harry's or Voldemort's. I didn't read the cover blurbs because I always feel like I'm reading a spoiler. I know this is a bit silly, but will the US version not have the title on the spine, because of the wrap-around art? Or has that just been omitted on these to show all of the details of the artwork?

To The Spoiling Hallows- Both Harry and Voldemort can't die, ONE MUST LIVE! READ THE PROPHECY! J.K said 2 main characters would die, SHE NEVER SAID IN THE FINAL CHAPTER! The final chapter tells everyone what happens to the survivors, (Harry marrying Ginny). It could be the Veil, but I doubt it, I think it is outside somewhere. Also, to everyone saying the covers are bad, there not, they RULE! Especially the U.S cover.

Wow. The cover isn't anything to what I had in mind. By the title, I was expecting a dark scene with dark trees and creepy stuff, but it actually looks good.

I didn't realize how excited and so very sad I would feel at the same time seeing this cover art. It is exciting to get the clues - but so very sad that this will be the last. I am sad that my kids won't be able to experience the exitement and anticipation of waiting for these books. I pray that someone some day comes out with a series of books that excite my kids like these books have exited me.

All these are fine covers, regardless from the fact that they tend to upset this old macintosh when I try to get a larger view. My favourite is the Adult edition, usually of a high 'technical' quality (although I noted that the blurb is rather concise). I also liked Scholastics, but Bloomsbury's children cover has colours a bit too vivid, I prefered Order of the Phoenix, or H.B.P. I'm not sure whether amazon intends to send me the Adult edition, I may order it directly from Bloomsbury.

I think Harry's parents will somehow help and connect with him in this final book and Dumbledore's ghost is going to somehow guide him through his way.

To kidwitalife:
Harry and Ginny are defintly gonna get back together, and IF YOU READ THE BOOKS EVEN ONCE you would EASILY see Hermione loves Ron (Won-Won, I just re-read HBP for like the millionth time and couldn't resist saying that!)? He may connect to he's parents (the Veil?), but Dumbledore is in a portrait, not a ghost, it says so in the end of HBP. Yeah, it's Harry/Ginny. You can see the love they have for each other :)

Honestly I hesitate to say this..I am not crazy about the oranges and gold tones for the final book. I thought black and silver would look good, or black and green or something. I don't like orange but is this a clue--Halloween? A date that something happens?
