Daniel Radcliffe and Helena Bonham Carter, from the Harry Potter movies, as well as other well known actors will appear (some via video) on a special broadcast of the show titled American Idol Gives Back
.
Appearing with Dan and Helena will be Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant, Forest Whitaker, Pink, Gwen Stefani, Bono and Rowan Atkinson, to name a few.
According to the web site:
The show will benefit CPEF is a charitable U.S. organization established to raise money and awareness to help combat extreme poverty in the US and throughout the world, particularly in Africa.
Tickets will go on sale at 10am on Tuesday, April 10th, internet only, log-on to ticketmaster.com. By the way, proceeds from the ticket sales will go to the charity.
The show will air on Tuesday, April 24th and Wednesday, April 25th (please check your local listings). At this time we don't know what dates Dan will be on the show.

UPDATE: Thanks to DR.co.uk for letting us know that Dan's appearance will in fact be via video, as previously pointed out and the segement with Dan will not be "exclusive" to American Idol. We will update with more when we can.

I am excited for this, I rarely get to see any of the Potter characters on television. It seems like they aren't on much in the U.S.. I will have to put this on my calender. It will be exciting to see them on a show like American Idol, definitly not in their element. Very entertaining.

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! nooo! i wont be home to see that epsiode of American Idol because my class trip is that day (to nyc) and i am getting back @ 10 @ night and i refuse to miss my trip because i am going to go see Tarzan the Broadway Musical(my all time favorite) that night! o well might as well not go! i mean Daniel Radcliff is on American Idol! i cant miss that!!!!!!!! everything gets put aside for Harry Potter!

That's good that it's for charity. With a show as big as Idol, it's probably going to generate a lot of money. And Bono's going to be on too, so that rocks. I'm definitely going to watch that, even though I've only seen part of one episode of the show the entire time it's been on the air (yup, I know, it's sad).

Yeah, I just heard this while watching my TiVo'd Idol. Sounds like a very big deal, all round. Considering how much of a reach the show has, it's nice that they're giving it a charity angle, with a very worthy cause. If I had to guess, I'd say Dan is appearing via video, mostly because the show is in L.A. Cool of Dan to get involved -- as we know, Dan's been on board with promoting good causes for years
