According to a press release
this morning, IMAX will be transforming approximately 20 minutes at the end of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix from 2D to 3D.
Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures said:
We are so pleased to be bringing audiences yet another outstanding Harry Potter film to the big screen in both 35mm and IMAX theaters. This is the Studio's biggest franchise to date, and we expect this highly-anticipated fifth film to play phenomenally well in all theaters throughout the summer.
Veronika Kwan-Rubinek, President of Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures International added:
The Harry Potter films are an enormous draw all over the world, and this film should prove to be no different. The last 20 minutes in IMAX 3D will add a new element of excitement to the Harry Potter experience, making this a must-see for fans of all ages. We're looking forward to a long and very successful run.
The movie will be released
in IMAX and conventional theatres on July 13, 2007.
UPDATE: A new poster from the movie from IMAX has appeared

Oh my God, that's going to be so intense!!! Just seeing it in 2D was quite an experience. I know I'm going to see it in the IMAX opening night, so that's going to be great!!! Plus, I've never seen anything in IMAX 3D before, so that should be interesting for me.

This news is spectacular. The fifth film is playing at the IMAX at the science center here this summer and hopefully I am able to see it! Watching the climax in 3-D will be an experience that no words could possibly convey.

I think that the whole 3D aspect of it is going to be great. It's a first, and I'm so happy I was planning to watch it in IMAX anyways.
For all those members that have not yet seen a Harry Potter film in IMAX, I strongly suggest that you go and see this. Even though Harry Potter is great to watch ANYWHERE, in IMAX its just amazing. The experience is so much better than a regular movie theater.

I can just imagine orbs hovering in the air, green and red wand sparks flying through the screen. Exciting!

Technology like that is still great and improving after several generations. I think it will be a great experience. I wonder if the price is going to be any higher because of this?

I've been so excited about DH, that I hadn't really thought much about the movie, but I'm really starting to get excited about it now! I can just see Voldemort coming out of the fountain of magical brethren at the MoM in 3D!
No, Ginny Weasly, I didn't know that, very interesting! ; )

I don't like IMAX, the glasses hurt my eyes and if you don't wear the glasses the image on the screen hurts your eyes.
Also it sucks if you already wear glasses because it's so hard to wear the other glasses!!!!!
Despite that, I still want to see the movie on a REALLY BIG SCREEN!!!

Well now that adds a different twist. I don't know if Sirius falling through the veil will be in that 20 minutes but I really don't think I want to see that in 3-D.
But I will definitely go see it an IMAX probably not until after I have seen it at least once in the conventional theater.

WOW. When I first read this, I laughed because the idea seems just a little bit silly. But then I reconsidered, and it would be pretty darn cool! :D. Oh and excuse my ignorance, but is imax the thing where audiences have to put on those polarzed 'glasses' to see the 3D correctly?

That's cool. If the last 20 minutes of the movie includes fighting at the MoM, that would probably be really fun to see in 3D. Unfortunately, the nearest IMAX theater to me is about an hour away, so I doubt I'll be seeing it. :(
