As first reported
by Deadline Hollywood Daily, advanced discussions are taking place for an elaborate Harry Potter-themed adventure park somewhere on Universal's Orlando property.
The Scotsman reported Sunday that a former executive revealed detailed plans of the project, worth an estimated $500 million:
Rowling is believed to have been in negotiations with Universal Studios since 2005 over potential sites and the park's contents. Earlier talks with Disney, which has a Disneyworld in Orlando, are understood to have fallen through because the giant American leisure corporation wanted total control of the project.
Indeed, Rowling's camp later denied a link with Disney.
UPDATE: While this rumor has existed in some form since as early as 2003, HPANA can now independently confirm that such a project is in discussions. Universal and Warner Bros. declined to comment, however JK Rowling's representatives confirmed to HPANA that the author has been in talks with Warner Bros. about a themed attraction for "several" years. There is nothing to announce officially at this point, however.

Oh my gosh, Harry Potter comes out of the UK and ends up in America! How unfair! Don't put a Harry Potter theme park in Orlando because then us british have to fork out a hell of a lot of money to go!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be the same here if this park would be in Britain. I wouldn't be able to afford to go there. If it does end up in the States, I would definitely go. There should be an HP theme park in the UK as well. Fans are global, you know.

Fortunately, the headline says, "in talks" and I hope it will stay that way. I might be being very pessimistic here, but this strikes me as a poor attempt to cash in. OK, in a few years I could be forced to admit I was wrong but for now, I'm going to bet that this will be a lot like the "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" ride in Alton Towers, which is a terrifyingly ill thought out idea.

I've been saying for the last couple of years that an HP theme park would be an excellent idea - I love theme parks anyway and that would ROCK! However, I can't figure out why it would be at Disneyland since Warner Bros. owns HP movie rights and those two companies are in competition. Warner Bros. owns 6 Flags - why wouldn't the HP theme park be at one of them instead?

humm... I don't know about this... I don't really think it would be extremly "fun" rides... like rock'n'roller coaster in Disney or like the Hulk in Universal... maybe some of them would be like the story rides were you sit in a little car thing and just go around the stories of HP... like in Disney with the Whinnie the Pooh thing or in Universal like the Cat in the Hat one... or what ever ride it was... so I don't know...
