As first reported
by Deadline Hollywood Daily, advanced discussions are taking place for an elaborate Harry Potter-themed adventure park somewhere on Universal's Orlando property.
The Scotsman reported Sunday that a former executive revealed detailed plans of the project, worth an estimated $500 million:
Rowling is believed to have been in negotiations with Universal Studios since 2005 over potential sites and the park's contents. Earlier talks with Disney, which has a Disneyworld in Orlando, are understood to have fallen through because the giant American leisure corporation wanted total control of the project.
Indeed, Rowling's camp later denied a link with Disney.
UPDATE: While this rumor has existed in some form since as early as 2003, HPANA can now independently confirm that such a project is in discussions. Universal and Warner Bros. declined to comment, however JK Rowling's representatives confirmed to HPANA that the author has been in talks with Warner Bros. about a themed attraction for "several" years. There is nothing to announce officially at this point, however.

Personally, I am very sceptical of any theme park based on Harry Potter that any theme park may develop. Although it is assured that such a park would prosper financially, I am afraid that any park of the sort would reduce the content of our cherished books into some kind of cheesiness. It is with much trepidation that I imagine what such a park would look like. Creating one that will truly please the Harry Potter fans and not prove to be an embarrassment is going to be a task that is not easy.

I would prefer it if they decided on one being made in the UK. Although it is not confirmed so we still have hope of a British Theme Park. I have only been to the US once and it was very expensize, and if it was in the UK it would be closer to my family s oI could go there hwile visiting them :D

Yeah, I can totally see Disney trying to have complete dominance over the theme park, that is not shocking. Universial would do really well with it, I believe, it would add so much to what they already have and a HP theme park, would be the most popular ever! It would be soooo much fun, I will go if they do go through with it.

The thing this tells me is that if JKR is negotiating for construction of a theme park, she definately is NOT going to kill off Harry in book seven. They are not going to build a theme park for five hundred million dollars for a dead character. No way. He has to stay alive.

It seems a bit silly to be investing so much money on a theme park when the book series is nearly at the end, and the movies will only last so long before a lot of the Harry Potter merchandising will have been exhausted....
