As first reported
by Deadline Hollywood Daily, advanced discussions are taking place for an elaborate Harry Potter-themed adventure park somewhere on Universal's Orlando property.
The Scotsman reported
Sunday that a former executive revealed detailed plans of the project, worth an estimated $500 million:
Rowling is believed to have been in negotiations with Universal Studios since 2005 over potential sites and the park's contents. Earlier talks with Disney, which has a Disneyworld in Orlando, are understood to have fallen through because the giant American leisure corporation wanted total control of the project.
Indeed, Rowling's camp later denied a link with Disney.
UPDATE: While this rumor has existed in some form since as early as 2003, HPANA can now independently confirm that such a project is in discussions. Universal and Warner Bros. declined to comment, however JK Rowling's representatives confirmed to HPANA that the author has been in talks with Warner Bros. about a themed attraction for "several" years. There is nothing to announce officially at this point, however.

Hmmm... until J.K. says it's absolutely official, I'm not buying it. Just because something is being mulled over does NOT mean that it will happen... gosh i hate being right.

No matter how I try to wrap my head around it . .I can't see a stand alone park like Harry Potter Land. I could however see it within Islands of adventure . .which already has Suessville and Super-hero land and cartoon land(rocky and bullwinkle and other old faves) and masy sections for differant themes. I think that a Hogsmeade section would be neat with shoppes like Weasley's Wizard Whizzes and then the castle there and a couple of rides in between. Vendors selling pumpkin pasties and pumpkin juice and a model of the Howarts express that gives a tour. That would be really neat.
As for whether Universal can do it better than Disney-Universal is awesome! I love Islands of Adventure-they can and would do a good job.

This would be so cool. They could create attractions straight out of the films like parks have done with other movies. You could interact with "lifesize" creatures and they could create all kinds of rides for all ages and levels of fans, from tame rides for younger people to scarier rides for older people. I can see an anti-gravity type of ride to imitate the feeling of using a Portkey, or a Buckbeak simulator. The possibilities are endless. There could be a laser-tag style game that uses wands instead, so you can duel with other wizards, and you can tour a replica of the Black House (set up in a "haunted house" style, based on the house in the book- tapestries and portraits will scream at you and there are boggarts in the cupboards. So much fun!

I think an HP theme park would be one of the best things ever. They could simulate Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley, as well as Hogsmeade and obviously Hogwarts. It would be so neat to be able to feel like you're really in the places from the books!

I can't express how awesome that is! I hope that it's a done deal soon and they can put it together within a few years time. Wouldn't it be cool if the trio opened up the theme park? :D

Potter theme park? Heh, haven't they been talking about that for ages now? Maybe over a year, or even more than two years. Well, I'm not really counting on seeing anything too soon, but you never know. If there IS a Potter theme park, heck, I'll be one of those people that will swear to go before they die.
