As first reported
by Deadline Hollywood Daily, advanced discussions are taking place for an elaborate Harry Potter-themed adventure park somewhere on Universal's Orlando property.
The Scotsman reported
Sunday that a former executive revealed detailed plans of the project, worth an estimated $500 million:
Rowling is believed to have been in negotiations with Universal Studios since 2005 over potential sites and the park's contents. Earlier talks with Disney, which has a Disneyworld in Orlando, are understood to have fallen through because the giant American leisure corporation wanted total control of the project.
Indeed, Rowling's camp later denied a link with Disney.
UPDATE: While this rumor has existed in some form since as early as 2003, HPANA can now independently confirm that such a project is in discussions. Universal and Warner Bros. declined to comment, however JK Rowling's representatives confirmed to HPANA that the author has been in talks with Warner Bros. about a themed attraction for "several" years. There is nothing to announce officially at this point, however.

I think this would be great & a big attraction to add down in Florida. I would be there with my kids in a heart beat. They would just love it. I hope it does become a reality.

This would be so awesome. I wish they would put it somewhere on the east coast. I doubt I would ever get to California to see it. But I guess that would be a reason to go. I am sure it would be a really good amusement park.

Sure, why not have one? Maybe in Britain first? Because the series is so British.

At long last it looks like this project is going ahead. I said a few years ago that there should be a Harry Potter theme park, so that Warner could keep the film sets instead of building them and then taking them down between films.
it would have been amazing to walk in to the Great Hall, Diagon Alley & the Burrow.
I wonder what rides & attractions will be at the Park? a roller coaster ride into Gringotts vaults? Flying on a Hippogriff through London? Quidditch games?

It's a shame that it could not be built in Scotland though. It would have been even more magical for it to be in the Highlands, in stead of just being next to the Back to The Future ride. But I guess for that amount of money, Universal would want to guarantee lots of people going through the turnstiles.

I'm glad it's potentially going to be at Universal. Personally, I think it is a much better theme park than Disney.

That would be cool. The odds of my family ever visiting Orlando are very slim, so I'd probably be stuck watching videos of the theme park on YouTube or something, but it would still be fun to see. Now I'm picturing a roller coaster called "Draco" that's something like the Superman at Six Flags... haha.

Well, that will be exciting, as long as they do a good job for it. Too bad it's so far away, and probably pretty expensive. Will there be rollercoasters where you are sitting on a broom? Or on a thestral!

Oh my goodness!!! I am now totally thrilled about this. I am a huge Harry Potter fan, I live like an hour away from Universal Studios (in Orlando), and by the time this thing has been agrred upon and built, my son will be old enough to want to come with me! Ahhh i couldn't be happier... this is so amazing. Thank you JK!!!

Personally, I would love nothing more than to spend a whole day with my extended family pretending to all get along and have fun,
my aunt wearing a Draco Malfoy wig ala Mickey Mouse ears, and taking pictures with various mute HP characters waving idiotically at the camera- wait, it goes on-
then, once we're done with the initial stuff, we take out our HP Universe Map, go to the Hogwarts Castle ala Cinderella's Castle, which has Peeves blowing raspberries at us in a mirror as we zoom along on the fantastic ride to see Dumbledore's Office, the Great Hall, the Gryff Common Room, and other places of interest as we suck on Dobby shaped Ice Cream-
then, we have five to fifteen rides- each entitled things like,
"Nimbus 2000" (for Kiddies)
"Nimbus 2001!" (for grown-up kiddies)
"the Firebolt!" (for teens)
"The Hungarian Horntail" (for thrill seekers with a death wish!Whoo )
"Take a Spin with The Portkey!"
"Hit the Death Eater Bobble Head and Win a Prize!"
"Enter Voldemort's super duper secret lair! ooooh!
And other wonderfully imaginative stuff.
And candy shops themed with icky gross stuff, yeah, because kids luuuurve that!!!!
I know it's all fun and everything, but I'm getting jaded by the day with this harry potter juggernaut that's seeking to rule the world!! %insert evil laugh% I mean, it isn't subtle anymore. it's seriously a money-making business.

I wish that they would put this in Ohio. I know that sounds totally random, but we have Kings Island and that would be so great. I think it would attract so many people. And then it would be closer to me:) I am sure that will not happen but I can always hope.
