Confirmed: New release date for 'Order of the Phoenix'

We have just received news that there is a new release date for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. According to all who emailed us, the movie has a new release date in the U.S. and Canada of Wednesday, July 11th - two days earlier than previously reported. The original release date was Friday, July 13th.
Coming Soon
and Rope of Silicon are both now reporting the new release date. We are trying to confirm this information and will update as soon as we know more. Thanks to Eve, Paul and Marcus for emailing.
UPDATE: Warner Bros. has now confirmed for HPANA that the release date for the movie has been changed to Wednesday, July 11th. Thanks Jeremy for the update on the Canadian release date.

Seeing as it's coming out in summer time it shouldn't effect opening day that much and this way they'll be able to get 2 extra days before DH comes out.

Hmm... A Wednesday? Strange. I get opening on Thursday because Thurs is (as most college students will attest) the real beginning of the weekend. Most places have drink specials, clubs have good pre-weekend parties, it's a good day to go on a quick date, etc... so it seems natural for a movie to open on that day... But a Wednesday??? I guess it's the money machine churning

This is so obvious. They moved the UK release date up to the 12th, and the Americans decided they just had to be first since they make the make the movies, so they had thier date moved up to the 11th. Typical America.

Well, here in Australia all new movies are always released on a Thursday - and it will be released in the July School Holidays (NSW) so there'll be tonnes of kids able to go and see it. Can't see what all the fuss is about changing it from Friday to Wednesday in the US - although it would've been cool for a "Friday the 13th" premiere... spooky...

Ohmygoodness. Well, I have evaluated the pros and cons as presented by these lovely comment-givers, and have come to the sorry conclusion that this, although it might be a good marketing strategy, will hurt many fans. Although most schools in the USA will be on break, there are also those students who will be attending summer schools, and adult HP fans who won't be able to attend because of work. So I would have to disagree with this change in release date. I'm sure fans could be patient for two more measley little days. If it were released on a Friday, there would be more excitement because it would be more cummulative plus there could be many more party options excluded now, because of a Wednesday release (which incidentally seems to be becoming popular among bestselling movies these days...).
