Confirmed: New release date for 'Order of the Phoenix'

We have just received news that there is a new release date for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. According to all who emailed us, the movie has a new release date in the U.S. and Canada of Wednesday, July 11th - two days earlier than previously reported. The original release date was Friday, July 13th.
Coming Soon
and Rope of Silicon are both now reporting the new release date. We are trying to confirm this information and will update as soon as we know more. Thanks to Eve, Paul and Marcus for emailing.
UPDATE: Warner Bros. has now confirmed for HPANA that the release date for the movie has been changed to Wednesday, July 11th. Thanks Jeremy for the update on the Canadian release date.

Ah, I was boasting about getting a day earlier seeing as I'm in the Uk. Congratulations to America and Canada though! Well it is the summer, and I think a lot of people will go and see it on Wed. Then their money making scheme comes into play when they see other friends at the weekend and decide to go and see it again.

Oh, yes, this is very much to do with the ridiculous box office numbers we are seeing so far this summer. If OotP has an exclusive opening date, it will definitely have no real competition for being #1 that week. That said, if they're trying to break those first day-second day- third day records that have been broken over and over this summer, it'll be tough to do on a Wednesday.
I was planning to see the film on opening night and this actually makes little difference with those plans, unless my babysitter isn't available on Wednesdays!
Strangely enough, none of my friends are planning to see the film until after they read DH. Each is re-reading the series and doesn't want to "muddy" their thoughts about what comes after HBP with seeing the movie for OotP. I am also re-reading the series, but since I've read the books so many times I don't think it'll be a problem (especially since I've probably read HBP more times than the others). That said, at the rate I'm going, I'll probably just finish HBP in time for DH anyway!

That's insane! I'm SO happy right now - but still freaked, caz there's NO WAY my luck could be like that - PLUS, it's wierd.
I wasn't gonna be able to go because my friend wouldn't be there that night caz she need to be gone on Saturday! But, now, I CAN GO!!!!!!!
Though, that really is bizarre. I really wonder why movies are doing. It also kinda ruins the old movie tradition of "opening weekend" now it'll have to be 'opening wednessday' or something...
All I need now is for the same thing to happen for the book release (though I'm pretty possitive it won't) caz my friend's givin me the same troubles that night. Gosh...i gotta get new friends...

While a Friday release seems customary....HECK YES!!! This is awesome!! July is not going to dissapoint. This definitely leaves time to see the film with all the people I have been making plans with for different days. IMAX, regular screenings...this is going to be great!

This is good for fans like us because we get to see the movie earlier. But since the release is now on a Wednesday, this means that OotP opening day tallies may be smaller and their first 4 day tally will be really small as compared to opening it a the end of the week on friday when people are most likely to see it.

I know it doesn't matter to me what day it is 'cause there's no school in July! No difference between Wednesday and Friday. I don't think we have to worry, tons of people will still see it, Wednesday or not - because it's the summer.

Probably so the US gets it first I suppose, although what day of the week do movies come out in the US? If they changed that they are quite mad... Thursday is the day for new releases here, and thats when we get it...
