We have just received news that there is a new release date for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. According to all who emailed us, the movie has a new release date in the U.S. and Canada of Wednesday, July 11th - two days earlier than previously reported. The original release date was Friday, July 13th.
Coming Soon
and Rope of Silicon are both now reporting the new release date. We are trying to confirm this information and will update as soon as we know more. Thanks to Eve, Paul and Marcus for emailing.
UPDATE: Warner Bros. has now confirmed for HPANA that the release date for the movie has been changed to Wednesday, July 11th. Thanks Jeremy for the update on the Canadian release date.

No way. Thats economically insane to attempt to open what will end up being the biggest film of the summer on a Wednesday over a Friday. Thats loosing basically tens of millions of dollars just to push back the date.

I thought it was odd that Pirates 3 started on a Thursday - is this going to become the new "thing" for movies? I think it's rather silly - especially to start it on a Wednesday. What is the point? Most aren't going to go see it until Friday or Saturday anyway.

Well I wouldn't mind to wait till friday. I think that it might be smarter to wait till friday so then you can have some parties and you won't lose money on the weekend sales. I don't know whether it would be confirmed or not.

Did I miss something here? This is a GOOD thing for us Americans. Hm. Well, at least it's summer so there won't be any education interference. Not like THAT would stop me. Ha!
I went to the Pirates early showing on that Thursday. It wasn't as exciting now that I think about it. Maybe I would just wait until Friday for all the REAL excitement and parties, ya know?...Or maybe I'll just go both times? I don't know if I'll be able to contain my excitement if I know it's already showing.

But this is only the next of the horrible movies! Nothing serious! Who cares if the movie comes out on July 11th, 12th, 13th or even 31st? We want the book!!
[And especially considering the fact that this decision, if true, is obviously for economical reasons... I'm sure they've made their calculations, and have discovered (surprisingly enough so) that it's better for them to extend the period between the movie and the book. And, at the same time, to get it on an exclusive date, without other films coming out the same time.]
JKR, if you're reading this (and we hope you are - can't hide behind the "I'm writing" excuse any more!), please do the same thing with the book!

It would be marvelous if Warner Brothers decided to release the film two days earlier. The less the wait, the better, as far as I am concerned, regardless of how this affects the "superficial" box office numbers the press recounts on the weekend. The film will do a stellar job.

and Mugglenet is sometimes slow, all sites post things at different times depending on when they see or hear it...it sometimes takes me a few minutes to see some new news and post it or a few hours if I am out. They will probably have it up soon.

You can watch most films from Thursday onwards at the cinema in the UK anyway I think.
