Scholastic
, the U.S. publishers of the Harry Potter books released this morning the exclusive deluxe edition artwork
for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
UPDATE: Hi-res image of box set now available!
According to the press release
:
In addition to the stunning wraparound cover illustration, the deluxe edition includes never-before-seen full color frontispiece art on special paper. There is also an "Illustration Showcase" insert that features near scale reproductions of Mary GrandPré's chapter openers. Additionally, the deluxe edition includes an exclusive bonus black-and-white illustration that appears at the end of the "Illustration Showcase". The custom-designed slipcase is foil stamped and contains a full-cloth case book that has been blind-stamped on the front and back cover with foil stamping on the spine. The book includes full-color endpapers featuring jacket art from the trade edition.
David Saylor, Vice President, Creative Director, Scholastic described the art as:
Set during a highly dramatic sunset, Harry, Hermione, and Ron--clothes in tatters--cling atop a flying dragon in this astonishing artwork created by Mary GrandPré for the deluxe edition. As mist creeps down towering hillsides to a village below, questions arise about where the trio is headed and what has led them to this spellbinding moment.
The deluxe edition
, with work done by Mary GrandPré and available on July 21, will be a total of 816 pages; the suggested retail price is $65.00 (currently $39 on Amazon.com
) and the print run will be 100,000 copies.

Wow.....this is one of the most amazing covers I have seen. I can't wait to find out what this is...I feel like it is just a scene to get a horcrux or something because it definitly isnt the final scene because the cover art for delux books are usually just a scene from the book.

I was looking at both of the book 7 covers real closely. They are both very cool and I can't wait to find out what they are about in the book. I did notice that Harry has something around his neck in the regular version but not in the deluxe edition. I wonder what that is about.

The deluxe edition sounds very impressive with all of the extra pictures and artwork.
What I'd like to see is a complete deluxe edition of the whole set once it's published. I might be tempted to buy that.
Blessings! Hecate3fold!

HufflepuffActress says:
It would make more sense for it to be a dragon we are familiar with. The most likely option would be Norbert or the Hungarian horntail from the first task. The horntail would remember Harry trying to steel on of her babies. Norbert would remember the trio being present at him birth. It is possible that it is just some random dragon but why would a dragon let people ride her/him?

A DRAGON???? Moreover, this dragon looks nothing like Grandpre's art of all other dragons. Is it to much to presume this one resembles an Asian one???
Also:
Harry looks angry and determined to me.
Hermione worried
Ron as if he's in shock.
But oh, how I love the mystery!!!! ~E.P.

That is so so very cool! Dragons, oh my! I wonder if this is a grown up Norbert, or a transformed Snape? Personally, I think it's the latter ;)

I think I'll purchase this edition immediately, if it is not too late to get one. It seems expensive (unless the $39 price is maintained?) but M.GrandPré's talent makes it worth buying, and, why, this is the last opus...
I hope to receive a copy.

Wow, that's really great! It almost looks like that dragon really is looking back at the trio. It is just so hard to see, you really can't be sure it even has an iris and pupil.

WOW! The cover and everything looks so great and i love it but i do not think that i am going to buy it because sixty dollars is way to much for a book and a cover. It really does look good and i love it but that is way to much money for that kind of stuff. Maybe if the price goes down i will buy it but i'm not going t buy it right when it comes out.

Wow!!! That is sick! The dragon looks pretty beat up like it was in some type of battle. Also the fact that all of the trio is present gives me some hope that they will all survive the battle. But I am prepared for one of their deaths to be honest.
