Scholastic
, the U.S. publishers of the Harry Potter books released this morning the exclusive deluxe edition artwork
for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
UPDATE: Hi-res image of box set now available!
According to the press release
:
In addition to the stunning wraparound cover illustration, the deluxe edition includes never-before-seen full color frontispiece art on special paper. There is also an "Illustration Showcase" insert that features near scale reproductions of Mary GrandPré's chapter openers. Additionally, the deluxe edition includes an exclusive bonus black-and-white illustration that appears at the end of the "Illustration Showcase". The custom-designed slipcase is foil stamped and contains a full-cloth case book that has been blind-stamped on the front and back cover with foil stamping on the spine. The book includes full-color endpapers featuring jacket art from the trade edition.
David Saylor, Vice President, Creative Director, Scholastic described the art as:
Set during a highly dramatic sunset, Harry, Hermione, and Ron--clothes in tatters--cling atop a flying dragon in this astonishing artwork created by Mary GrandPré for the deluxe edition. As mist creeps down towering hillsides to a village below, questions arise about where the trio is headed and what has led them to this spellbinding moment.
The deluxe edition
, with work done by Mary GrandPré and available on July 21, will be a total of 816 pages; the suggested retail price is $65.00 (currently $39 on Amazon.com
) and the print run will be 100,000 copies.

Its definitely interesting! I thought it was Norbert, but now it might be an Opaleye. The covers really makes you want to read the book now- first arenas, then rooms of gold, now dragons? Its gonna be a great book.

Wow, what a fantastic cover illustration for the new book, although the artwork has been brilliant for all the books. I bought them all with the 'kids' covers and would like to get the 'adult' covers in a box set just to keep - don't know why! ha ha

is that a dragon they are on? and who is that on its back with Harry? it looks like someone with blond hair and the only one I can think of would be...Draco Malfoy.
...IS it Draco Malfoy?
do they become friends for the finale?
but I LOVE the deluxe cover. I wish I could afford the price of it.

OH WOW!!! I'm trying to understand what the artwork means! I'm not sure whether the dragon is Norbert or the Hungarian Horntail or why the trio is even riding it at all!! Could the village below be Godrics Hollow? At first I thought they were fleeing until I read Adnap Nottap's comment about the determined look on Harry's face! Did anyone else notice that Ron and Hermione appear to be wearing SCHOOL ROBES but Harry is NOT??

I love this art!! I agree that Harry not wearing a robe is highly suspicious. I may be streching here, but someone's comment earlier about draco made me think...perhaps he's an animagus? a dragon animagus?

Jeez, 65 bucks?! That's a lot!!! But I'll be just as happy with my regular edition. As long as I get the story, it's all I need.
As for the artwork, I am rather curious as to why the trio is riding a dragon. This could prove very interesting. I can't wait!!!

Wow, this shows a great deal!
Now we know that they are going to fly a dragon. Hmm.
It reminds me of the bloomsbury cover. Ron and Hermione are in robes and Harry is not. Does this have any correlation?

A dragon...? That is very interesting. I have a feeling that it is going to be Norbert. There has to be a reason that he was in the first book!
