Scholasticopens in new window, the U.S. publishers of the Harry Potter books released this morning the exclusive deluxe edition artworkopens in new window for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

UPDATE: Hi-res image of box set now available!

According to the press releaseopens in new window:

In addition to the stunning wraparound cover illustration, the deluxe edition includes never-before-seen full color frontispiece art on special paper. There is also an "Illustration Showcase" insert that features near scale reproductions of Mary GrandPré's chapter openers. Additionally, the deluxe edition includes an exclusive bonus black-and-white illustration that appears at the end of the "Illustration Showcase". The custom-designed slipcase is foil stamped and contains a full-cloth case book that has been blind-stamped on the front and back cover with foil stamping on the spine. David Saylor, Vice President, Creative Director, Scholastic described the art as:

Set during a highly dramatic sunset, Harry, Hermione, and Ron--clothes in tatters--cling atop a flying dragon in this astonishing artwork created by Mary GrandPré for the deluxe edition. As mist creeps down towering hillsides to a village below, questions arise about where the trio is headed and what has led them to this spellbinding moment.

Oh. My. God!!! I completely forgot we'd be getting the deluxe edition artwork! This is just so exciting! It has to be Norbert, what other dragon would JKR put into the final book, to have the trio ride on no less. JKR never ceases to surprise me with her subtle yet intricate weaving around of so many different pieces of the plot! Okay, I'll calm down now as soon as I say this. Fantastic job Mary GrandPre!!!

Wait... I take that back. I think there's only 1 person riding on the dragon BEHIND Harry. That's DRACO!!!!! Look on Amazon.

Severus' Advocate says:

OH MY GOD, it comes out NEXT MONTH!!! all our waiting, our anticipating, and it's almost here!!!

Unfortunately, my school ball is on JULY 21st, how bloody annoying! Imagine having to have it on Deathly Hallows release, the last Harry Potter book ever, HARRY POTTER we're taking about, I wonder if they did it on purpose. I guess I'll have to bring my book along, read and dance with it in my hands. Hehe.

The dragon could be Norbert. I want Deluxe edition. One day I'll just go and get all the editions. I've pre ordered Deathly Hallows but got this one in Adult Edition because I liked the cover, and I didn't really like the children's edition cover.

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS WILL BE HERE SOON! YEEE

I think this could be Norbert, it would bring a bit of the enchanted magical days back when they were only 11.

Below looks like Godrid's Hollow, we know they've going there because Harry wants to, and well, that looks like it could be it with the pretty scenery and little houses below. I can't think of any other place they would be going on a dragon, then to there, possibly. And I think the dragon's Norbert, because it's obviously a dragon who trusts them, who has a kinder temprement. Remember how scared Hermione was for Harry when he had to go on the Hungarian Horntail? I doubt Hermione would just hop on a Dragon, unless it was a very different Dragon. That Dragon's not the Hungarian Horntail, that beast was feisty and hungry, he was a dangerous Dragon. That's why it was the Dragon Harry had to get past, because it was so dangerous.

That picture looks so cool, it really adds to the speculation! I mean, a DRAGON. They are on a DRAGON, flying over a village looking place, their clothes in tatters. Have they just been in a battle? This book is going to be MAD!

Compairing it to the drawing of little Norbert in the US edition of PS.. it's sooooo obviously Norbert.

And I am 100% tired of people saying it's dumbledore...

DUMBLEDORE IS FREAKING DEAD!!

AND HE'S NOT A DRAGON NOW EITHER!

This is the best art from Grandpre ever!

First off... No, it's Ron because the guy from Scholastic who introduced the cover art on "Today" referred to them as "the trio"

Check out the two Norberts from book 1 and book 7.

Man the questions just keep on going and going.
