With the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie set to be released in a few weeks, details are surfacing on an upcoming casting call and filming location for the Half-Blood Prince movie. We also hear from director David Yates, confirming, in person, that he will be directing the sixth movie.
Warner Bros. are looking for a teenage boy and girl to play the parts of Lavender Brown and Tom Riddle with auditions taking place at Earl's Court in London on July 1st and 8th. According to the press release for both characters people should be between 15-18 years of age and a resident of the UK or Ireland. You can read all the information for the auditions here
. Thanks to HPFZ
for that news.
Some filming for the movie will take place
at Lacock in Wiltshire, with scenes filmed in autumn. You may remember that scenes featuring the Abbey's cloisters were in the first two movies:
The crew are set to return in the autumn and this time the focus is on the parts of the village close to The Angel and Church Street and the Abbey Cloisters will be used if the weather is bad.
This morning I attended a press junket for the movie where director David Yates and producer David Heyman confirmed for all that Yates will be directing the next movie. You can hear a snippet of their comments here

Oh, I'm so jealous of the people who get to audition for Harry Potter! I'm an actress, and you have no idea how hard it is to get such an audition for an epic movie when you have little or no experience, it's almost impossible! They are so lucky! I wish I lived in the UK! I guess they aren't using the actor who played Tom Riddle in the second movie. Are they holding auditions for Merope or did they already cast someone? I could play her, she doesn't talk or anything! Oh well, it'll be an enjoyable movie anyhow.

Im to old anyways and I live in the US, but it would be a hell of an experience to be able to audition for a role in one of the HP films. This is such a big movement and will be remembered and talked about for years to come. It would be crazy to be apart of it.

I wish that US residents could try out, but I understand why they want European people. It will keep the movies genuine. The scenes in the movies are always so close to the books, it is amazing how they can do that.

I realize they'll definitely have to have a younger boy to play Tom Riddle in the first few Pensieve scenes where he appears -- i.e. in the orphanage, meeting Morfin, and at school with Slughorn -- but I really, really, REALLY would love to see Christian Coulson back for the remaining bits... like visiting Hepzibah Smith and (especially) applying for the teaching position at Hogwarts.
Apart from giving HBP some continuity (not that that's ever been a concern for the producers, seemingly) I think he's a good actor and perfectly cast in that role already. Ever since CoS movie came out, he's always what I picture now when I re-read the books.
Besides which, Coulson's still an appropriate age for Tom Riddle in those particular scenes, and with the right makeup/effects to complete the picture, it would create just the needed transition before the final morph to "Voldemort" as we see him in Ralph Fiennes. I'll be seriously disappointed if the filmmakers don't make that effort to bring it all together for the audience this close to the series end.

Well, it confirms what we've already known for a while about the director. It's obvious that they need a much younger actor to play the young Tom, but I wonder why he couln't play him as a teenager/young man> Or maybe he will be, the article didn't really give much detail.

Hmmm...I was a bit surprised that they are actually going to cast someone to play Lavendar. She never has been in the movies...thats funny that she is just going to all of a sudden appear there.

I wish I lived in Ireland or England, but I live in the United States. I think that it is also really awesome that they are already getting ready to film Half Blood Prince. I am sure that the movie will be awesome! Good luck if you try out for Lavender or Tom people!

Well Christian wasn't orginally a fan but he got the part.
To be a fan is a plus, but it won't make the person playing the role any better at it in that sense ( they could always research their charachter from the book after getting it or something!
Oh and you need your passport I've heard if you're going to audition, said it in press release.

He must have done a brilliant job, from what I've seen it's been wonderful. This should be really good. However I am concerned about Tom-Why don't they use the Tom that they used from CoS? He was PERFECT. He fit Tom wonderfully and I don't think anyone else could do it better! I'm a little upset about that. Maybe he's too old now?

I really hate that they are getting a new Tom Riddle because Christian was just way too perfect but I suppose he is probably way too old now to do it. Such a shame.

Well if I lived in Britain and was a little younger I would try out. Maybe if I lie about my age. The actors who play the trio are older than the part they play. Why are the getting a new Tom Riddle I thought the guy from CoS was perfect.

I asked my mum if i could go and she said yes, but then i got a phone call at the weekend saying she really couldn't afford to take me to London. I was pretty disappointed so i asked my dad. Bad luck though again! My grandparents are going to visit him next week, but depending on what day they are going he said he'd take me!!
Well excited. Got my fingers crossed!
