Dr. Rudski has a strong interest in addiction, and the level of involvement people have with the Harry Potter series is the perfect opportunity to examine the addictive nature of non-drug related phenomena, he told HPANA. Two students, Carli Segal and Eli Kallen are helping him and giving him guidance with this project, as they are devout fans.
The study, Harry Potter and the Impact on Muggles, consists of four parts. The first part, to be completed between now and 2 weeks before the release of Deathly Hallows can be accessed at the link below. Subsequent parts will be posted 10 days before the release, a few hours after the release, and at least a week after.
Click here to take part 1 of the survey!
(Part 1 = NOW; 2-4 weeks before release, Part 2 = 1-2 weeks before release, Part 3 = after book completion, Part 4 = at least a week after completion)
Feel free to e-mail Dr. Rudski to receive updates and reminders for when each new link is posted, as well as to receive a summary of the results. Also, Rudski would love for fans to forward this survey to friends. (HPANA will also post the followup surveys and results.)

I took the survey because it's helping someone. I love Harry Potter, but I'm not addicted to it the way some people are. Some people are addicted to it like alcohol or drugs, that's crazy! I wonder how many people out there are that obsessed with it.

I just took the survey and I'm curious to see what the surveys will look like after the book is released. Oh well, as long as a lot of people take the suvey seriously it could really help with the research that the college is doing.

I just took the survey. I wonder what the next part is going to be about. I think that Dr. Rudski had a good idea for this study.

Arrrrgh! I just did the survey, but it keeps rejecting my submission. I've filled in and double checked all mandatory (*) sections.
Has anyone else had trouble?

So what does this mean, Harry Potter fans, addicted or not, need psychotherapy?

Perhaps some advice for others who take the survey.
I missed just one mandatory question and submitted it. I was alerted to the fact but could not go back and just fill in the blank.
I had to reload the survey. I wasted a lot of time trying to complete my original survey.

Wow. It's very true that there are a lot of people 'addicted' to HP. We make jokes about it, but I think most of us will feel pretty down when we realise there are no more books coming after number 7. It'll be even worse after all the films are gone too...

I just finished it, and I'm not going to lie - some of those questions made me laugh, especially the section near the end where there were those statements that said things like, "I would be less tense if I could read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"

It seems alittle odd, like i do love the books, but it's not like i will die. I wonder if their are some really really obsesed people out there. That might be funny to see (NO OFFENCE TO ANYONE WHO CONSIDERS THEMSELVES LIKE THAT).
I can get obsessive, but not that much

Ok, after that survey maybe I am not as obsessed as I thought I was, as I don't own that many pieces of Potter memoribilia.
Now for all the questions about how much time, etc. Well I spend way too much time (like now) and too much time talking about it, but hey its my obsession.

Oh, I really wanted to do the survey. It's disappointing that you have to be 18. I think my results would show that I am a tad too obsessed, but not as obsessed as some others.

I did this survey. It was kind of funny like they were psychoanalyzing us Potter nerds. There were even questions like 'have you found yourself to have a worse temper or depressed attitude while waiting for DH to come out?' It made me laugh.

Just took the survey! Taking it made me feel like I needed to join a Harry Potter Anominus club or something. I am definitely addicted! Of course, at the moment with the book and movie coming so soon, I've been more into Harry Potter than what I normally am, meaning I'm checking the HP sites way more often and stuff like that. I'm sure that is the case for most people.
