Survey: College wants your input on 'Potter' impact, after-effects Popular (5615)

This summer, psychology professor Jeffrey Rudski at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania is doing a research study on the impact of the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on fans of the series.

Dr. Rudski has a strong interest in addiction, and the level of involvement people have with the Harry Potter series is the perfect opportunity to examine the addictive nature of non-drug related phenomena, he told HPANA. Two students, Carli Segal and Eli Kallen are helping him and giving him guidance with this project, as they are devout fans.

The study, Harry Potter and the Impact on Muggles, consists of four parts. The first part, to be completed between now and 2 weeks before the release of Deathly Hallows can be accessed at the link below. Subsequent parts will be posted 10 days before the release, a few hours after the release, and at least a week after.

Click here to take part 1 of the survey!

(Part 1 = NOW; 2-4 weeks before release, Part 2 = 1-2 weeks before release, Part 3 = after book completion, Part 4 = at least a week after completion)

Feel free to e-mail Dr. Rudski to receive updates and reminders for when each new link is posted, as well as to receive a summary of the results. Also, Rudski would love for fans to forward this survey to friends. (HPANA will also post the followup surveys and results.)

Hope the survey helps them in their studies. The survey seemd fairly simple to me with the basic overall question being, How obsessed are you?

I would do it but I would have to be older. That kind of stinks. I wish I could. Well, actually I did but I didn't submit it. It is sad how addicted I am to Harry Potter. Then again, I love it. Oh well.

Hmm... of course it is highly addictive!!! Much more addictive than coccaine or heroin, if I do say so myself... not that I've ever tried them, so I guess that I don't really know... however, I still say that they are highly addictive.

HP is the best and you'd hav to be really thick not to be addicted to it! Besides i tink its good it that it encourages us to read even if we become addicted. l0l

Hmmm, I'm not sure if I could do this because I won't be in town the week the book comes out, and I won't be able to read the book until later than that. But I hope lots of people help out on this, it would be interesting to know the results.

Very interesting, but i knew immediately where he's going with this. He's trying to establish a theory that Harry Potter is addictive as drugs, and that fans go throught he same symptoms addicts do. Please!

Erm, who says that any of us is an addict when it comes to Harry Potter? *snort*

I may contact the professor to learn more about his study, but this seems like a good site from which to get candidates.

I find the idea of non-drug addictions interesting. Addition is a strange thing. You might physical need insulin to live but you mind is not addicted to it. Then there are things you think you have to have like chocolate or Harry Potter that addiction is in your mind alone.
