The first review
for the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie has crossed the wires. The movie premiere today in Tokyo and the reviewer gives the movie three out of five stars.
The chief problem, though, is not really a fault of the film but the near universal Potter-literacy of its prospective audience. Most Potter fans are now laser-focused on the release of the climactic seventh book in three weeks' time and its promise to bring together the countless loose ends.
This editor would like to point out that my rating for the movie would not be so low and we at HPANA will post our reviews on July 11th.
UPDATE: Yet other reviews here
and here
of the movie have appeared online, which are much more favorable than the one above.
UPDATE: II: Here is a review from The Hollywood Reporter
and one from The Sun
from the UK.

Reviewers are rarely fans of the movies they review--and I have notice that they seem especially hard on sci-fi and fantasy films. So I like what I like and occasionally listen to reviews of friends
But, I agree with an earlier comment, the books are better than the movies. They have always had to leave stuff out. Overall, I think they have doe a good job on the film adaptations.

This is only one review out of many to come and I can say that it could of been worse. Newspapers such as The Guardian (God bless them they were at the premiere and gave positive comments), The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph, The Sunday Times, The Independent, The Independent on Sunday, The Daily Mail, The Sun, The Mirror plus a load of reviews from magazines, websites and local newspapers as well. So, it will have plenty of chances to get positive reviews. And if the reviews after this point are positive about everything, then we don't have to worry about it. And by the way, that's not the only review that The Times will post. There will be another reviews made by a different Times critic posted when the film is released.

3 OUT OF 5. now that is a bit pathetic. but then again that person must not have been a Harry Potter fan if they only gave it 3. the other review was much more expected, not one bad word was said. Thats only 2 out of hundreds that will be coming out. ONLY 11 DAYS TILL IT IS RELEASED (in australia that is) I REALLY CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!

Awww...only a 3/5? Well...if you have read the books countless times you aren't really going to enjoy the movie like you would if you have never read the books.

The second reviewer mentionned that after the movie was shown there were subdued applause. I heard somewhere that in Japan, silence after a movie is a token of deep apprieciation and admiration. So from that perspective, I guess that subdued applause is a good sign...

Not a surprise. It is known that a lot has to be cut, particularly, from this book. It will be interesting to make my own judgement soon.

The reviewer has completely trashed the movie. Hope its not bad as he's written. I think the acting by all the actors is quite nicely done. Waiting for 12 July now.

It's so unfair to review the movie influenced by the release of the book. That has nothing to do with the quality of the movie.

The first review made me laugh! Ok, first of all, he makes several spelling mistakes, which automatically discredits him in my book. Also, he spends too much time talking about the seventh book. As a fan myself, I am looking forward to the book and the movie this July. I'm not going to see OOTP just because it's something I HAVE to do before I read the seventh book. I really want to see the fifth movie because it is a part of the series. The movies and books are two separate things to me. The movies are phenomenal. Whoever did the review can say whatever he wants. It doesn't mean he's right.

I agree, so many people are into the movies, and not the book. They forget that the movies are a completely different series to the books.

I'm sure that the movie will be absolutely fantastic. Movie critics are usually a lot harsher on movies than the average moviegoer, so if he (or she, I didn't actually read the whole review, not wanting to spoil anything) gave it 3 out of 5 stars, then mostly we'll be giving it 4 or 5 stars!

Bright Eyes! 3/5 is what i would have given it too. I went to the Myspace premier and the movie was good if you are not a fan but only really okay if you are a fan. Obviously they couldnt put everything in a 2hr and 30min movie but there were sooo many things that fans were looking for but didnt happen. Also some of the things were out of order therefore making other parts that correspond with it seem alot more insignificant and worst of all the part that everyone was waiting for the really freakin excellent part at the end of book five, the part with all the action and crazyness between Dumbledore and Lord Voldermort was pretty freakin awesome but not that acurate so it kinda pissed me off a little. and sirious death was really lame they could have done it sooooo much better. I am probably a little biased because OOTP is my favorite book so far but yeah not that acurate. I would compare it to movie 3. all the non-readers loved it, said it was beautifully exicuted and what not but the readers were like What the hell they left out sooo much and added this crap that wasnt even in there.
Also i was standing outside of the movie theater for 36 hours and by the time i got into the theater i was pissed, cranky, and excited at the same time so maybe that was also a factor.
