David Yates, who will be directing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince starting in September has commented
that the next movie is "...less intense on one level. It's more sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll."
Both Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson comment on his directing skill of Order of the Phoenix and the fact that he is coming back for a second time.
Daniel on working with David:
I think he managed to take the charm and visual flare of the earlier films and add his own sense of grit, that perhaps was not there before. He is a delightful man, very soft-spoken. Yet I have never been pushed as hard as I was on this film, partly because of the nature of the story, and partly because of his directing.
He always wanted me to go deeper.
Emma says:
The word I most connect with David is truth. He always wanted to find the truth in all the characters and in every single performance. We relished that. It stopped us getting complacent the fifth time around.
It was really lovely because David listened to what we had to say about our characters. He was respectful of the fact that we have been playing these people for five films now.

Well, I hope he's implying that the relationships will be part of the plot(and really a subplot, the main plot should be finding out about voldemort's past/horcruxes). I really don't believe that sex would be a part of a HP movie, it's not cannon. If it were, it would feel more like fanfiction on the big screen.

I'm looking forward to it. I thought the 4th movie was them most disappointing and the sixth book the most...drawn out. I think it'd be good to have more flash and less detail as long as the story doesn't get lost.

While I will reserve full judgment until I see the movie, I have not heard anything but unreserved praise for Mr. Yates from the Trio. So weird to think that HBP will begin filming in about two months.

Ok I don't really want to hear about "...less intense on one level. It's more sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll."( From the article) I just want to have more magic....hehe

Um, wait a minute, sex drugs and rock n roll? What book was he reading? Snogging, yes. Sex drugs and rock n roll, no. I hope they don't overdo the whole sexuality scene to where it's too much encouragement for younger fans, more so than what JKR put in it.

Sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll sounds good, I'm sure this movie is more intense in lots of way, emotionally, physically, and the adventures more intense, the battle, and they have more issues this year really, I think the antsy Harry will be great on movie, it defintly divulges deeper into his character and an aspect of him. But at least Harry's learning to control his angry side now :) he's a lot more mature in Half Blood Prince.
Yates sounds like a terrific director to work with.

I do not think the movie is less intense on any level I can think of. It mentions him being invited back I wonder if the other director (with the exception of Chris Columbus) were not asked to do another film or if he is the first one to except the offer to return.

I really do hope he does justice for both films, especially because both are quiet important to the series...
Um, what ever happened to Rupert? He wasn't mentioned at all...

Haha, that's awesome...the films just keep getting better && better...I can't wait for July 11th! Or the 10th at midnight, which technically is the 11th for us Americans...I'm traveling on the 10th and am planning on seeing that movie with my friend once I get there, but I don't know exactly what day we're seeing it...we were planning on the first night, but I'm not so sure...I get free tickets, tho, cause I work at a theater, so that's awesome...I'm so excited...

Well, I'm reserving judgment until I've seen OOTP and then HBP when that film comes out.
If Yates' version of HBP is "more sex, drugs, and rock and roll" and "less intense", it may or not be a good film, but it doesn't sound much like canon!

What in Merlin's name is that supposed to mean? I'm beginning to think his take of the 6th book is a bit wrong. HPB is, in my opinion, the best book of the series and I really hope he doesn't mess it up.

Haha, I don't think he was completely serious about the 'sex drugs and rock and roll' comment as some people are taking it!
But he's right - HBP is the book where the trio mature and face typical teenage issues. It's like GoF again but a lot more serious and mature.
And it did say that Harry fantasised about doing that with Ginny .. *winks*

Obviously HBP is much less intense. Students playing quidditch and snogging everywhere. It's going to be very boring movie. I hope he will cut most of the scences. Sometimes I wish that JK wrote this book again.
