David Yates, who will be directing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince starting in September has commented
that the next movie is "...less intense on one level. It's more sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll."
Both Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson comment on his directing skill of Order of the Phoenix and the fact that he is coming back for a second time.
Daniel on working with David:
I think he managed to take the charm and visual flare of the earlier films and add his own sense of grit, that perhaps was not there before. He is a delightful man, very soft-spoken. Yet I have never been pushed as hard as I was on this film, partly because of the nature of the story, and partly because of his directing.
He always wanted me to go deeper.
Emma says:
The word I most connect with David is truth. He always wanted to find the truth in all the characters and in every single performance. We relished that. It stopped us getting complacent the fifth time around.
It was really lovely because David listened to what we had to say about our characters. He was respectful of the fact that we have been playing these people for five films now.

Good i like that they liked working with him, liked what he did with the characters and film. Shows that OOTP is going to be great and indicates that HBP might be even better.

I hope Yates was able to get some good things from Emma. I always liked her until GoF, and then I found her to be very false. I don't mean her personally, I mean her performance. Her facial expressions...everything seems forced. I'm curious to see what Yates did to rectify that!

It does sound like Yates has really put himself into the films, but that he also listens to the cast and their take on the characters they have been playing for many years now. I really hope this next movie will be fabulous!

If HBP is going to be "sex, drugs & rock and roll" does that mean we will actually see Ron and Lavender lip-locked throughout the whole movie? This book was a bit lighter than Phoenix and I'm convinced that David Yates will do an excellent job once again!

I don't recall recall any sex, drugs and rock 'n roll in the book. Unless you count the Ron and Lavender making out or maybe he thinks the felix potion is like a drug. I hope he's not going to turn it into something more risque than it really is. I like the more grown-up feel the movies have taken since GoF. But sex, drugs and rock 'n roll? That is not what these movies are about!!!!!!

I love that the director is excited about the next film. It really seems like he is into getting the actors really into their characters. He really wants to get the emotion that you get from the book. He doesn't want it to seem like they are acting.

Please, please, please David Yates, don't distort the storyline.
JKR has (in my opinion) gone to great lengths to avoid issues such as teen sex and drug use. Yes, she has Ron and Lavender locking lips almost all the way through the book, but she doesn’t take us any further. Why do you need to? If it’s good enough for Jo, it’s good enough for me.
Please don't bring the magical world that is Hogwarts down to ‘our society’s’ subversive standards. We read the books to escape reality. Don't ruin it for us.
And yes, I feel rather strongly about this issue. ?

That's the quote, I suppose, that fits this movie based on Yates point of view. For sure rock n'roll is a wild description for a movie and it's sure to come with a lot suspense.

This film, of all of them needs more grit. Visual FX at the end, yes, but it's a very emotional journey... I'm worried about it's compression into 2hours 30minutes. THe earlier films were far better.
