At the U.S. premiere of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Sunday, producer David Heyman confirmed to HPANA the casting of two 11-year-old red-haired children for the next film, Half-Blood Prince, which is set to begin filming in September.
The actors -- Taylor Triphook (a boy) and Katie Head -- will play minor twin characters who are not culled from JK Rowling's sixth novel. Heyman did not elaborate further. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is expected in theatres November 2008.
HPANA's complete coverage from the red carpet of the Order of the Phoenix premiere will be posted soon.

...what?
That is...beyond stupid. I am agreeing with all you folks who have commented that this is a horrible idea. WHY can't the moviemakers stick to canon? I understand that they need to cut the movies down for time and clarity, and that that can involve combining scenes and cutting out secondary characters and plots, but new characters just for no reason? WHY? That is a little insulting to the book series and it also leaves less time for the actual book characters to get their thing done.

I don't know if I like them adding characters NOT from the book. I don't know how this could be a good idea, but we will see.

I don't like the idea of them introducing new characters. I hope that they, at least, don't have more than a few lines.

Woah, calm down guys. They said they are not from the HALF-BLOOD PRINCE novel, so they could be characters from the seventh book that they decided to introduce early in the HBP movie, pretty smart if you ask me.

I hate it when they stray too far from the books. Brand new characters at this point? Unless they're needed for the 7th movie and it's easier to introduce them now...

I wonder what kind of characters they are going to play. I am not sure that it is a good idea to add new things to the story because it is already pretty big.

Two new characters?
Well, they're probably going to play a small role.
Like maybe the people Crabbe and Goyle impersonate.
Except that they didn't pretend to be guys. Just girls...
Hmm, well it's certainly something to think about.

Wow, two red hair children were casted that weren't originally characters in the book...I wonder what they could be? More Weasleys? Couldn't be that; maybe just random students I guess. Hmm, interesting.

But why? There is no point at all in adding two characters that aren't even in the books! Especially in this movie because of everything that happens!

Silly Dragon says:
Red-haired wins must be closely or remotely related to the Weasley family. I hope the scenario will match the plot of this turning point of the series, and that particular attention will be paid to what will be removed. I don't know if I will have the opportunity to attend a premiere in November, July is more appropriate to go abroad.

Dementor Hugger says:
This is pretty intriguing, but I agree that it's totally strange when they add these characters. We'd all love to see more from the books, not made up stuff. And if they're in there for some kind of comic relief, we've got Fred & George for that. They're still very much in HBP. Anyway, I've just considered that the new twins may be customers at the joke shop or something.....hummmmm.....

This is most unusual. Twin boy and girl twins? But for what purpose? I'm a little skeptical of this at the moment, but I'll reserve my final judgment until more information is revealed or once I actually see the film.

I doubt this is the case, but if you are looking at red-headed Weasley twins, we do know that Molly had two brothers. Do we know their ages in respect to hers? Perhaps we see the Prewitt twins in flashback.

I wonder why they would add extra characters into the movie. Especially characters that they had to have auditions for. IROCKMYFIREBOLT you have a viable point. Ron and Hermione's children would be very interesting to see. I'm kind of skeptical about them adding these characters though.

Interesting... I'm not sure about this though, Harry Potter is Jo's baby like! They muck it up a good bit as it is, with leaving out certain parts of the story out of the movies, but bringing in new characters? I don't know, if I was JK, that just would not be on for me.

Um-- why? Why exactly would you cast two people for roles not in JK Rowling's books? The movies should base their material off of the books, and not on the whims of the people involved in making the movies. Just my opinion. I can't see what their roles would be.
