Thanks to "the worst kind of Muggles" -- those who ruthlessly attempted to spoil the enjoyment of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on HPANA in 2005 -- we've implemented a comprehensive set of protection policies for Deathly Hallows, which are now live.
Unfortunately they are rather strict and cripple much of the site's functionality, but we would like to err on the side of caution rather than convenience. As such, members who joined after July 1st, 2007 or who have less than 100 points will not be able to post in HPANA's forums at all, effective immediately. External images and links have been disabled until after the book release, and the Wizard Wire Service on HPANA's home page has been temporarily removed.
We hope these and other minor changes will help ensure a spoiler-free experience on the site. Please don't hesitate to contact one of the moderators if you find something spoilery anywhere on the site.
Also note that any spoilers (scans of the book, chapter or plot summaries or elements) prior to its official release at 12:01 a.m. on July 21 will be removed and the poster's details, including IP address, will be forwarded to the Harry Potter publishers and JK Rowling's office. (Not to mention, banned from HPANA.)

Sorry for double-posting, but thanks, HPANA for ensuring a spoiler-free experience!

Thats great. There is desperate need for spoiler protection. I saw the scans of HBP before it was released on HPANA. The person who had put it up had highlighted the part where Snape killed Dumbledore. It was such a put down :(

Better safe than sorry I say. I completely agree and support HPANA's spoiler protection measures. I don't know why people do these types of things. This is why I also stray away from reading much on the Net around the time of release. Thanks for looking out for us all!

Good, I'm glad these protections are in place. I'm even ok with the site being closed down right after the book being released because I will be reading any way.

Wow! Pretty drastic measures. Not sure i agree with the people under 100 points can't post thing, though...but if hpana feels it's necessary, oh well.
Why closing for 48hrs? My book will be finished befor morning, its stupid that i can't discuss it with those who are already finished. Those who don't wnt to be spoiled shouldt enter the site that's all

I think this is a fabulous idea! I am not getting my book from Borders because I'm scared some jerk in the front of the line who doesn't care about the 7 years I've put into reading these will open the book and shout out facts before I can get my hands on it. I'm going to leave Borders for a convenience store around 11:30 or so, to wait patiently with a couple of other people around!

I'm so gad that these rules are taking place, I would hate to have the book spoiled, especially as it is the final one! I know how it feels to have books spoiled...I had OotP and HBP spoiled, because I didn't get OotP until after the release date and I was still at school. Some girl I know had already read it and I wanted a clue as to who died. She said "SB" and immediately I knew who it was and regretted asking.
Then when I read HBP I was teasing myself by peaking at the last few pages/chapters. I saw a line saying about DD's death...and a bit about Lupin/Tonks. Which I REALLY regretted.
So even though it is unfortunate that cetain rules must be put into place, I am thoroughly glad that they are!
I, like many others here, am going to avoid all news, etc, on Friday, read the book, shut up in my room on Saturday, and not be tempted to hear any spoilers!

I am so glad that you guys do this. It is so great that people want to keep the book a surprise. It is sad that people would want to spoil it. I am glad that you will hold them accountable, and JK should know and they should get in trouble. SO thanks!

Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!!
Since the last two books I have been spoiled of my enjoyment of the book, because i believed certain deaths would happen and they did. That takes the fun out of it. I do agree with the protection and I honestly can`t thank you enough for it. From thursday im not going near any sites..only my personal pages like bebo!! :)
But Im a very quick reader and I hoped to come on HPANA after I read it. Like approx 6 hours I think ill read it but its better off to be closed for 48 hours! plenty of time for the ending to...be the very end *Cries*
The only sites I trust now is this site and mugglenet as I am on both very much and I trust you guys not to spoil anything. And I really hope for the mods that you don`t get spoiled either, I mean, with all your hard work you deserve not to get spoiled. I do know whats its like especially as I was a Mod on another site when OOTP came out! ;)
Again thanks!!! =]

This is so lame!
I have only just joined and now I am being punished for not having enough points to post!!
Well, if you do report things to JKR's publishers and her herself then you might mention that you are discriminationg people just for their lack of points!!!!!!!!!!
This is an outrage!!!!

Oh good, I'm very glad that these precautions have been put up. It's a good idea to block the newest users, the ones that still have to grow their own respect for the site. I am sure that everyone left over will help in every way they can to protect HPANA from all the other trolls and spoilers. Thank you very much for putting up these restrictions. :)

I don't think it should matter how many points you have, just how recently you have joined. Just because we don't have tons of points doesn't mean we're going to put spoilers up. I understand that new members are likely to have fewer points, but why don't they just keep the May 31st thing and take away the points rule, because they're punishing people for not having time to get on here and post every day.
