Thanks to "the worst kind of Muggles" -- those who ruthlessly attempted to spoil the enjoyment of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on HPANA in 2005 -- we've implemented a comprehensive set of protection policies for Deathly Hallows, which are now live.
Unfortunately they are rather strict and cripple much of the site's functionality, but we would like to err on the side of caution rather than convenience. As such, members who joined after July 1st, 2007 or who have less than 100 points will not be able to post in HPANA's forums at all, effective immediately. External images and links have been disabled until after the book release, and the Wizard Wire Service on HPANA's home page has been temporarily removed.
We hope these and other minor changes will help ensure a spoiler-free experience on the site. Please don't hesitate to contact one of the moderators if you find something spoilery anywhere on the site.
Also note that any spoilers (scans of the book, chapter or plot summaries or elements) prior to its official release at 12:01 a.m. on July 21 will be removed and the poster's details, including IP address, will be forwarded to the Harry Potter publishers and JK Rowling's office. (Not to mention, banned from HPANA.)

lorrin angel : As for being a true die hard fan...that's unfair. I work 70 - 90 hrs a week and this is the first time in years that I've had 'free time'. I choose to spend much of that free time here. It has nothing to do with 'die - hardedness'. If that's the crime than anyone who joined after the first year should be banned as really, if you were a true fan, you would have found this site right away.
And if you really wanted to get into it, I could ague that my points total on average (per week) is higher than many oldtimers...including yours, I believe.

I particularly like the idea about keeping those who joined after May 31, 2007 banned from posting. That's smart. I am so leary of people over on Leaky Lounge who are new. I'm freaking that people already got ahold of scans of pages and such. And I DON'T want to know the chapter list until Friday night when I open the book myself. It's my favorite part, opening the book first to the chapter list and reading the titles.

I think that is a good thing that HPANA is doing that, but I think that they should pick more carefully the people that are blocked or banned. They should check the posts of the last people that became members Of HPANA and not block them all just because they became members a little later than others...like me.I became a member of HPANA 7/7/07 because it was the first time I knew about it...I have benn a huge Harry Potter fan since I was like 5...but I never knew about HPANA...I have managed to make 125 points in 12 day [being banned 2 days ago from the forums]and I just dont think its fair for me to be banned when I have no intentions to spoil anything for anybody...I just dont think its fair for me...oh well what can I do?

Thats really awesome that these affects are being put into place, because if Deathly Hallows gets ruined for me I will not be very happy and a cheering charm wouldnt be able to fix it. Why would anyone want to spoil this for the fans anyway, thats just plain rude.

The policies seem fair to me.
I certainly don't want anyone to spoil or spill about what's to happen in the 7th book thats for sure!
It's good to know that HPANA is taking this to an immediate effect.

Hear hear!! I am glad HPANA is taking strides to ensure protection against spoilers, but unfortunately, not everyone will. With HBP, I was able to lock myself in my room all day, not looking at the tv or my computer. This year, however, I have to move on Saturday, and I am a bit concerned about coming into contact with this sort of "the worst kind of Muggles." ::Crossing my fingers:: no one spoils it before I'm able to read it Saturday night!

Thanks for being so viligent. I see headlines everywhere about possible spoilers, it is scary. I am sure there are those that will feel the measures are too strict but we have all waited so long for this, I don't want my reading experience to be ruined. Thanks HPANA for looking out for all of us.

I'm really glad that these precautions are taking place! I haven't been online much lately for fear of spoilers popping up out of nowhere and it is reassuring to know that there are steps being taken to protect our last moments with Harry. May we all enjoy Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (at our own pace!)!!!!!!!

Wow, these are some very strict precautions. I love it! As one of the unfortunate people who was spoiled for HBP in 2005, it's great to see HPANA making such an effort to keep the site spoiler-free for all of us who can't resist coming here no matter how close it gets to the release date. Great job, guys. =)

It is sad that HPANA even has to have such protections, but I am happy th at it does. HBP got spoiled for me on here when someone posted a scan of a page near the end. I'm glad I won't have to worry about such things this time.
