Thanks to "the worst kind of Muggles" -- those who ruthlessly attempted to spoil the enjoyment of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on HPANA in 2005 -- we've implemented a comprehensive set of protection policies for Deathly Hallows, which are now live.
Unfortunately they are rather strict and cripple much of the site's functionality, but we would like to err on the side of caution rather than convenience. As such, members who joined after July 1st, 2007 or who have less than 100 points will not be able to post in HPANA's forums at all, effective immediately. External images and links have been disabled until after the book release, and the Wizard Wire Service on HPANA's home page has been temporarily removed.
We hope these and other minor changes will help ensure a spoiler-free experience on the site. Please don't hesitate to contact one of the moderators if you find something spoilery anywhere on the site.
Also note that any spoilers (scans of the book, chapter or plot summaries or elements) prior to its official release at 12:01 a.m. on July 21 will be removed and the poster's details, including IP address, will be forwarded to the Harry Potter publishers and JK Rowling's office. (Not to mention, banned from HPANA.)

Thats great, I am glad extra steps have been taken to ensure the secrets within the book stay that way until it release. People like that are pathetic...

Kudos! Parts of HBP got revealed to me by friends last time and I'm very eager not to let the same mistake happen this time. Even if I hadn't wanted to read the book over the weekend I would just so I wouldn't get the spoilers. SO yes, very good choice to put in such strict measures.

Thanks for setting this system up. I'm already mad as it is for my friend who's trying to give me false information. For those of you who have heard of rumors, don't believe them until you've read the book.

While I can appreciate your "no spoiler" policy, I do feel that the less than 100 points part is unfair. I can understand if someone just joined after July 1, you may question their intentions. But just let me say that as an older member(49), and having joined back in March, and having nearly 70 points, I am insulted by this assumption that I would be so inconsiderate as to post spoilers. I only recently found some people to start having conversations with and now I am cut off, and the week before the book comes out, when I most would like to join in. I probably won't be back, since it is unclear when I would be "allowed".

Thank you for your Constant Vigilance!
And thank you for HPANA - don't know where I'd be without it!
No problem with the strictness of the restrictions - very good idea because no one likes a spoiler! I have always hated it when someone tells me things about a book or movie before I get a chance at them - just plain mean if you ask me.
Looking forward to Friday night!

I'm really bummed about this because while I just joined may seem a bit dodgy I really am a fan and come check the news aggregator once a day for the past year, sadly never fulluy committed to an acount until I could no longer bear have no one to discuss Harry with. So I enrolled after watching the fifth movie because my friends and family are about hearing the real plot and all the cuts and changes I noticed. I really wanted to participate this year in the chapter by chapter analysis so I could make sure I am comprehending everything now that the end has come. Is there anyway to apply or ask for an exception???? Pleeeeease!!!

Thanks HPANA for doing this for us fans!
I remeber reading the First Book (UK edition) shortly after it came out... from that time I have been an HP addict!
I was really upset when for HBP people seemed intent on putting out spoilers before people had even had a chance to read the book... and it was very unfair for people who aren't speed-readers or don't have English as their first language.
The fact that you guys are looking out for us fans and are keeping the site spoiler-free is really awesome. Thanks for helping us to have an awesome close to this entire HP experience!
I'll see you guys on the forums after I finish reading DH!

It seems strict but to spoil the long wait prematurely is a very bad crime. Those who do so are worse than scum.

My mom sent me the link. I'm so mad, because it looks authentic and everything.
I hope whoever it is gets caught and publicly humiliated.
But, still, it's pretty tempting to download the book. But I so WON'T!!! It's unfair to J.K., and the fans.

Heh, this is good - very good. And it's a good thing I have a couple thousand points and I joined a long time ago. Hmm, I wonder if everyone will be banned from posting, regardless of how long you've been here. I sure hope not - last time, I didn't get to comment on ANY of the new articles! It was terrible...
