Thanks to "the worst kind of Muggles" -- those who ruthlessly attempted to spoil the enjoyment of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on HPANA in 2005 -- we've implemented a comprehensive set of protection policies for Deathly Hallows, which are now live.
Unfortunately they are rather strict and cripple much of the site's functionality, but we would like to err on the side of caution rather than convenience. As such, members who joined after July 1st, 2007 or who have less than 100 points will not be able to post in HPANA's forums at all, effective immediately. External images and links have been disabled until after the book release, and the Wizard Wire Service on HPANA's home page has been temporarily removed.
We hope these and other minor changes will help ensure a spoiler-free experience on the site. Please don't hesitate to contact one of the moderators if you find something spoilery anywhere on the site.
Also note that any spoilers (scans of the book, chapter or plot summaries or elements) prior to its official release at 12:01 a.m. on July 21 will be removed and the poster's details, including IP address, will be forwarded to the Harry Potter publishers and JK Rowling's office. (Not to mention, banned from HPANA.)

Those are such good rules, thank you so much. I hate people who spoil things like that. Just by posting one sentence or twoo can ruin the entire book.

good! I got so mad last time that it took away from the surprise. Especially the pratt who stole into the publishing co. I'm keeping cotton in my ears and blinders on!

Good, I don't want to know anything about the book. I just want to read it and find things out as I go. Thank You HPANA for looking out for us. Just about here/ happy faces.

Unfair. You could have given us 'newbies' a bit of notice...or are we considered 'mudbloods'?
If I had known earlier I wouldn't have posted my ideas as now I can't respond to any responses and it is EXTREMELY frustrating.
ACK!!! THIS IS AGEISM!

Yay! I wholeheartedly support this stance that the moderators of HPANA have taken. Thank you - us 'real' fans (who are against spoiling in any way, shape or form) are truly thankful.

I think it is a really good idea to put all this mesures. I wouldn't like to spoil my reading and I'm really happy that sites like HPANA are making an effort to keep the spoilers away.

Good for you, mods! (And for all us loyal HP and HPANA fans.) I think these are some wonderful ideas that will serve to protect all of us from spoilers, and I am glad that the mods will be taking some time for themselves to read the books and have a break from monitoring this site. Happy reading, everyone!

I don't have any problems with Spoiler Protections even though I won't be able to post for a while, but since I have an interest in law I was just wondering about the legality of disclosing personnel information to the publishers. I don't want to cause any fuss, but I just thought I would point out that the current Privary Policy doesn't mention anything about IP addresses or disclosure to the publishers. Maybe the Policy can be updated to reflect these changes so that people aren't under any false impressions.

Wow, they're strict policies, but I support them 100%. I am one of those who will not go near anything that could contain a spoiler of a spoiler. Thanks HPANA for keeping the site safe and spoiler-free!!! :)

I just wish there was a way to control spoilers from everybody else. I am attending a midnight release party in CO, but that's hours behind everybody on east and over in Europe. I'm afraid people will see the advance info on the internet and spoil it for all of us still waiting for midnight. Spoilers come in all forms. The death in HBP was spoiled for me by a librarian from the library I volunteer at. A librarian, of all people! If I get my copy and get home without any spoilers, it'll be a miracle...Thanks to HPANA for taking these precautions, and even CBS has said their news won't report what happens right away. If only everybody else could be so thoughtful!

I wish I ahd the 100 points, but i dont. I still think not letting new members post is a good because I dont want to see any spoilers on here, and I still get to read the forums so the new rules are not that bad.
Only 5 days left now!!! Cant wait

I'm having mine delivered because I'm on the west coast of Canada...Many people will have finished the book before I get mine. I'm locking myself in my house, no tv, no radio. My friends all know not to expect to see me until I have it in my hand and read cover to cover...at least once.

SeriousB -- As someone who knows a thing or two about the law, I can answer some of your questions. The HPANA server is private property & since we have clearly pointed out that any information posted about the book is considered against our rules we effectively can forward IP addresses to any legal dept., which we have done on occasion with members who decide to cause trouble.
Also note that JK & her publishers have a blank Jane Doe/John Smith affidavit, which they will whip out at any chance they get to make sure that the book isn't spoiled for others & which they have done very recently. Believe me we wouldn’t do anything that breaks the law. If you have any additional questions/concerns about this please email me directly at geri@hpana.com.

Woohoo!! Wow! Thanks for all the measures you are taking for us.
It's a pity about all those with below 100 pts though but since most trolls are people who join in on that day just to spoil it for the rest of us, it has to be done.
can't wait for book 7!!
cheers!!!
