Scholastic, the U.S. publisher of the Harry Potter series has obtainedopens in new window a subpoena in the hopes of learning the identity of the culprit who posted scans of pages from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on the web.

We at HPANA have been sent similar items, such as videos and images of the books, and we are working with Scholastic to remove authentic spoilers from the internet so that fans are not spoilt.

Spoilers are going to be everywhere unfortunately. It going to be tough, but I'm doing my best to avoid them all. I'm staying off the web this weekend until I get through the book myself first.

It has to be an inside job...No one can get to JKR notes, and when books are printed. It is the employees that handles the misprints.

Ohh, I hope they catch that guy! What a dirty, rotten thing to do! I thought that the spoilers hadn't even been real, but apparently they are, which means it is even more necessary to catch him.

How on earth did someone actually get a HOLD of these things? I guess people who work at the bookstores would be the likely culprits... shame on them! What do they think they're achieving? No one's going to like them better for it...

And this is why I'm avoiding Facebook, livejournal and other communities without a no-spoiler policy.

I even try not to hunt for HP news (which normally is a fav pastime of mine).

Thank goodness even the mere mention of DH scans is enough to send me running the other way.

I want all the magic this time- without the T-shirt (no, I wasn't spoiled by that since I did a speedreading job for my local bookseller for HBP) and with all the leisure the book deserves.

I don't like this *at all*!

It seems like these people are intent on taking the fun out of the whole experience... which shows how sad they are.

The thing that disgusts me the most though is that it looks like this is a "library copy" of Deathly Hallows that people have put out there... which means that someone who works in a library did this!

I have worked in Libraries and bookstores in the past, and it was really neat, because the Library gets 2 or 3 copies of the book EARLY. The books are sent early so that they can be entered into the collection and readied for release on the day that the book is released for sale. This is a good thing for people who cannot afford to get a copy of the books. A REALLY COOL thing about working in a library is that sometimes, if you're cool and the Librarians know that you are honest, you can even READ THE BOOK before it is in the stores! Whoever posted these pictures took advantage of the system, and is now RUINING it for everyone else!

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T WANT TO SEE ANY SPOILERS, DO *NOT* GO TO YAHOO ANSWERS LITERATURE AND BOOKS SECTION!!! THERE ARE PEOPLE POSTING PHOTOS OF THE BOOK THERE - AND THERE ARE LISTS ALREADY OF "WHO DIES AND WHO DOESN'T".

I'm just sooo upset right now... but then I think of poor JKR and how upset she must be!

AAARGH!!!

I didn't know anything about the scans until now. I'm so glad I didn't come across them.I don't want to know what really happens until I read the book. That just takes away all the fun and magic in reading the book.I can't believe the people who want to do this kind of thing. It's so wrong. If people want to be spoiled then fine thar's their business, but leave everyone else alone and let them decide for theirselves.I hope these people are caught and they get what they deserve.

I saw quite a few blogs posting the leaked scans and I was more than upset - I was fuming. I did not want to see any spoilers ahead of time and I am so happy HPANA did not post any of the scans. It's one of the few Harry Potter sites that didn't. Right now, HPANA is the site I trust the most to give me information about the release of Deathly Hallows without spoiling the book for me.

Keep up the good work, HPANA!

I was also considering bringing along something to throw at the culprits... Heh heh heh. Fighting back, you know? Maybe tomatoes... eggs... or small rocks. Stink bombs
pr you could bring OotP to trhow at them. that could hurt. or maybe it just hurts when you drop it on you're foot. IDK I'll find out!

Yeh... HPANA's "Spoiler Protections" are definately working... I went earlier to MuggleNet and another site that I like to browse and ran into people talking about the scans (which I didn't even know about!) and sharing pics of them right on the forums! MuggleNet even *claims* to have "spoiler protections" in place - which is obviously not true, as most of the threads now have spoilers. Even the front pages of sites are now contaminated!

HPANA, thanks for being honest about the "Spoiler Protections" and allowing those of us who want to wait till Midnight to get our books with the rest of the world!

HPANA rules!!!

i was on facebook two days ago and i stumbled across links which someone posted which said POTTER SPOILERS.
knowing me, i thought it was a joke and i briefly looked at it..meaning a scanned it --not really taking in the jist of it...but now i know it was really REAL.

Unbelievable since the whole book was scanned..and no, i did not read it or go back to the page (cos it's taken down too) i'd rather wait and read it myself on July 21 @ midnight !

Ok, I want to know something. I want to know how people are getting a hold of the book and posting things online. Because after all the security measures that have been taken to prevent people from getting it earlier, you would think it would prevent things. Supposedly, the only people that have read it are the sames ones who read it a few months ago, and with all these security measures, you would think that it would stop anybody else from getting a hold of the book.

I think these people deserve public humiliation, and hefty fines. I don't know what kind of twisted person would want to ruin someone's entire mood. My cousin was told that Snape kills DD in HBP by her roommate and as a result didnt even read the sixth book.
