The first picturesopens in new window of Daniel Radcliffe from his upcoming film My Boy Jack have appeared on the web. The television movie will air later this year on ITV in the UK and U.S. public television station PBS has bought the rights to air the movie via it's Masterpiece Theatre series.

The movie synopsis:

The true story looks at how Rudyard Kipling used his influence to get his 17-year-old son Jack (played by Radcliffe) a commission with the Irish Guards, despite his son's poor eyesight.

Jack went missing in action during the Battle of Loos and his mother and father carried out an ardent search for him, spanning many years and many miles of soul-destroying discovery.

Ooh, he looks very nice in all of these pictures. However, I'll always know him as Harry, and this guy is not Harry.

To be very honest, he looks weird. Maybe more so, now that we've got used to see him in the "Harry" attire!!
But, anyway, I hope he's pulled off the role well ... that's what really matters!!

Xoanon says:

I'm really impressed with Radcliffe. He is accomplishing something I never thought was possible and is successfully escaping from the long shadow cast by his role as Harry Potter and being seen as a capable actor in his own right.

I know it may be natural for younger HP fans who don't understand anything about the history of Rudyard Kipling or the First World War to snigger at the moustache and uniform, but given it's serious subject matter, if he is able to match or exceed his performances in Equus and OotP, I think that Radcliffe has an excellent chance of earning some serious praise for playing the tragic role of Jack Kipling.

Well done to him!

Ohhh jeez... he looks ridiculous and firghtening all the same. Too VERY much like Hitler... I don't like this idea. I'd rather see him in action-adventure films, or maybe some romantic drama.

He looks very old fashioned, but mature.
For me, it is a good deal for him to expand his acting beyond Harry Potter. Embracing other parts that will add to his acting experiences, that is very good.

Whoa, he looks like Adolf Hitler! Just look at the side-swept hair & comb-like mustache...and that uniform!

It's good for him to take such a role with that much depth, though. I'm looking forward to seeing this television movie; it sounds interesting (especially since it's written by THE Rudyard Kipling [!]). Until then will I see how he's really improved his acting skills...I wasn't impressed with what he's done in the HP movies, unfortunately.
