Rankin on JK's new novel: "This is a joke that got out of hand" Popular (5763)

Source: The Guardian

On Saturday we let you know that crime writer and neighbor of JK Rowling, Ian Rankin, speculated that she was "writing her Edinburgh detective novel" in city cafes. In a new interviewopens in new window today with Mr. Rankin, he now states that:

This is a joke that got out of hand.

There were 600 people in the audience, and only one person didn't laugh.

Meanwhile Emma Schlesinger, speaking for Rowling's literary agent, Christopher Little called the rumors "unfounded" and:

JK Rowling is taking a well-earned break following the English language publication of Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows and there are no firm plans as yet as to what her next book may be.

Since the original quote of Mr. Rankin has spread like wildfire over the web let us hope that this new information will put this matter to rest.

That is very funny, and somehow I was waiting for that to happen. Of course these things are always taken out of context, and where one makes a joke others a little slow on the uptake, just don't quiet get it.

I hope that she manages to get stuff out anonymously under a pen name so that her work is judged on it's own merit and not compared to Harry Potter.

Frankly speaking, I really can't imagine Jo writing anything other than fantasy!!

Not funny, Mr. Rankin!

You know how we Potter fans get!

Is it official that any Potter-related stories published these days could get people in trouble? You should know better!

It's kind of funny, because not many people here in the United States know about him, so don't understand why it's funny. I think she definitely deserves a break, but I do hope she writes more! Whatever genre, even if it's not as good as HP, I'm sure it'll be great and I'll love it!

I was really looking forward to reading a crime novel written by Rowling. After Harry Potter, we all know that she's a great writer.

So, it's kind of a letdown to know that this is only a joke...

i do hope she continues with the HP series.
But that will be very unlikely.
But you never know, she could continue from the epilogue and created a Harrys Afterlife conclusion. haha : ]

Oh seriously!! Didn't she say that she is going to take a well-earned vacation?!? And she needs by the way. Seventeen years of almost non-stop hard work, I'd say that would make her not write for a long time.

Ohh, Ian Rankin... I don't know who that is. I'd assumed they were talking about Chris Rankin. Hehe, he's big with the fansites, even though we hate his character. Eew... Percy. Well, he's good now, so yeah. Haha, I don't really read crime novels, but I think I'd read one if JK Rowling, but now that we know that she's not, I guess I won't!
