In an upcoming exclusive interview
with our friend Garth Franklin at Dark Horizons, actor Jim Broadbent confirms he has been chosen to portray Horace Slughorn in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," which coincidentally began principal filming today in the UK.
The actor, who was recently seen in Hot Fuzz, also said he has been going to costume fittings and that his new character is quite comical:
"Who am I? He's called Horace Slughorn. He's a retired teacher of magic who's drawn back out of retirement because he's got some secrets they need in the battle against the Deatheaters..."
Broadbent will also be seen in 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Cyrstal Skull.

To be very honest, I can't quite imagine him as Slughorn ... he's not rotund enough ... ;-)

This guy will always be Bridget Jones' father to me! But he was good in Hot Fuzz as well, even if he was a little evil in it!

I never would have thought of him for Slughorn. Though he is very funny. We'll have to see. I always did think of Slughorn as rather jovial, just maybe a little larger round the middle.

Yay, I really like Jim Broadbent! I agree he seems a bit too thin for the part, but they can change all of that with costuming. I kind of like the fact that he is a kind looking person as well. Good to have someone to portray Slytherin as something other than evil for once!

Uuh....isn't he the same guy who plays Cornelius Fudge? Or is there just a strong resemblance in this particular picture? I haven't bothered to check the DVDs to see who really does play Fudge, so I'm probably wrong.....

And I forgot to add that he'll need lots of padding, and a definite walrus moustache. But he could transform wonderfully, you can't tell just by looking at the actors - I didn't recognise Gary Oldman from a bar of soap when I saw him not as Sirius. And just look at Robby Coltrane - OK, he's a big guy, but if you didn't know him enough to pick the resemblance, you'd never recognise him, either.

He looks like a pretty good slug to me! Cant wait to see him in action. Hopefully he reads the books-or at least his parts we don't need any more "alterations" in character behavior-there's been enough of that to go around thank you very much.
