With filming of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince currently in production and only one more movie left to be made in the franchise, director Guillermo Del Toro voiced his thoughts
recently on the set of his upcoming movie, Hellboy, that he would make a Potter movie if he could do it on his own terms.
They came to me once, for the third one [Prisoner of Azkaban]. I've read them all, and when I read the books before the movies were done, I always pictured Charles Dickens - they were very Dickens-ian. The situation of Harry Potter reminded me a lot of Pip from Great Expectations. I saw they as deeper, more creaky, more corroded; then [the stories] were textured very differently when the first two movies came out. They were so bright and happy and full of light, that I wasn't interested.
Speaking about the last movies, he said:
They seem to be getting eerie and darker ... If they come back to me, I'll think about it.

Guillermo del Toro would be a great choice. I'm still hoping that Alfonso will come back for the seventh and final film, but I would be happy with del Toro, too. He's right that the films are getting darker and the seventh should be the scariest of all of the films - I wonder if that will influence him?
I suppose there's a chance that David Yates will do the seventh film. He seems to be happy in his current spot.

I so agree with him ... the first two movies were a bit "Disney" for my liking ... all fake bright greens and cute, sappy kids.
I reckon he would be AWESOME for Deathly Hallows! Oh, please pick some director who has the balls to do the book justice!!

I don't think he should be given the opportunity to direct DH. David Yates did a great job on OOTP and he has already started HBP, so I hope he can return to direct DH. It would certainly make the last three films more connected by having the same director.

Despite wat everyone else says, i think the first 2 movies were well done; they started out as children's books and them being very dark would not have interested may children; i take it from me, i was about 9 when the first came out and i thought it was perfect; light when it should have been, dark when it should have been. What does he even mean on his own terms- you have to do it on the fans'and jk's terms

I don't know about this guy Guillermo Del Toro. I wouldn't want it to be only on his terms. It's not his story and that is quite selfish.
