Rumors of an eighth Harry Potter book have plagued the fandom for years, even after vehement denials by JK Rowling and her representatives. Well, we can put another to rest.
A few news articles
detailing a professionally crafted web site called Elder's Crossing
have popped up recently that seem to hint at a new story named James Potter and the Hall of Elder's Crossing. HPANA can now confirm that it is not connected in any official way to the series.
"Jo has not written an eighth book in the series and is not doing so," Rowling's agent Neil Blair has told HPANA. "So no James Potter book I'm afraid."
UPDATE: Warner Bros. also assures us the site is not connected to them.

The Elders' Crossing site is fanfic. The Intarweb detectives at JournalFen have already debunked it:

Well I want to read something Jo write that is connected to the Wizarding world in the future. I mean if she does anything else I might not want to read it (thinks for a while), actually I think I would read it just to see what she has written.

Althought the book isn't real, I hope Jo can write the 8th book, if she has time.

That's amusing. I hope that nobody actually believed that, Jo finished the series beautifully, so I doubt that she is going to go back and write about Harry's dead father. Wouldn't suit her style. That would make a very washed up story, anyways.

RON's all up in heRmiONe says:
I heard about this last night. I thought it was all a hoax from the beginning. Why would JK Rowling go from writing Harry Potter to writing a book about his father, without telling us? I would have love to read it if she did write a book like this, but it would also give me some very sad feeings. I'd be reading the book and thinking, why hasn't she mentioned Ron or Hermione or any of the other beloved Harry Potter characters I know and love so well? I think the last mention of Harry Potter she's going to make in writing would be the encyclopedia. Uness she decided to write about Harry, Ginny, Ron and Hermione in a few year about their lives as adults. Now that I would love to read.

I never thought that there would be a James Potter book or series. It seems like someone trying to make money off the Harry Potter franchise. Obviously Elder was used to make people think of the elder wand.

Or at least she's not writing one for now! Jeez, who'd put all that work into making a website just to stir up a rumour. Waste of time if you ask me... the website is incredibly slick - and even asking for passwords and such... hahaa. They even say 'everything is copyright JKR etc etc". I wonder what *will* happen in 20 days. It'll be the last day of November, right?

I kinda wish JK Rowling would write another HP book, but I can understand why she wouldn't want to beat a dead horse. She set out to write 7 HP novels, and that's what she did - we should just be happy to have had the pleasure of reading them. But still. That title sounded really cool. :P

While I am sad that the series is over, it is over. I would love more books of any kind. They wouldn't have to be part of this series even. There is so much past to visit and always future to create. I'd read them if JK wrote them no matter what.

"I think she deserves a break anyway ! Can't wait for the encyclopedia !" I agree.
Besides, I'm not the kind of person that would be interested in a James Potter story. I'd rather read more on Albus...or one on Minerva...or more on Severus...or one on Remus...or Sirius...or Regulus :).

On the one hand I'm sad that there will be no eighth book, but on the other hand I'm happy that JKR denied that she will write an 'needless' eighth book. I'm excited if she will write the Harry Potter encyclopedia which she announced. I hope very soon.
