Rumors of an eighth Harry Potter book have plagued the fandom for years, even after vehement denials by JK Rowling and her representatives. Well, we can put another to rest.
A few news articles
detailing a professionally crafted web site called Elder's Crossing
have popped up recently that seem to hint at a new story named James Potter and the Hall of Elder's Crossing. HPANA can now confirm that it is not connected in any official way to the series.
"Jo has not written an eighth book in the series and is not doing so," Rowling's agent Neil Blair has told HPANA. "So no James Potter book I'm afraid."
UPDATE: Warner Bros. also assures us the site is not connected to them.

On the one hand I'm sad that there will be no eighth book, but on the other hand I'm happy that JKR denied that she will write an 'needless' eighth book. I'm excited if she will write the Harry Potter encyclopedia which she announced. I hope very soon.

I posted twice on the first page and my second post seems to have been deleted. Does anyone know why? I had copy and pasted the WHOIS info on the eldercrossings site. Is that not allowed?

I'd never heard of that, but that is too bad. I don't know if I'd want to start another big adventure like that.

That would be interesting if she wrote a spinoff book of Harry's parents and their adventures! Oh well, she better write the encyclopedia, I'm really looking forward to that!

Unfortunately there will be plenty of such websites that may give us hope that there will be more Potter books. However, if the news doesn't come from Jo's website then these rumours will not turn out to be true.
I do hope that fans continue with their own essays, theories etc.

Oy, I can't believe people get kicks out of spreading rumors like this. I will be happy when the encyclopedia eventually comes to fruition; I have no reason to expect an 8th book. Although I want her to keep writing new things for sure, an 8th book at this point after she said she would not write another would ruin some of the appeal of the series, as it fits together so beautifully in 7 books.

Listen people, don't insult the site and say it's a scam. The site says that it's not affiliated with JKR in any way. They never said they were making an 8th Harry Potter book. I think someone with way too much time on their hands made it. Still it's a pretty cool site.

You see fans saying a lot how they'd love an eighth book but why? Harry Potter's story is completed, what more is there to say?
Hopefully Deathly Hallows will be made and released in 2010 so that it would have been a whole decade of Harry Potter, and then that's it. In some ways it will be sad, but she's given us a whole decade of Harry Potter, and it's been a great journey. I hope she writes other stuff, other kinds of books. I think she has said before she loves writing too much to not write more, but that whatever she next writes won't be as big as Harry Potter. I think she should write books that could be big, there is an infinite number of ideas out there. I think it would be awesome and exciting to read something novel and completely new, something that has nothing to do with the Harry Potter world written by her.

Well that's too bad. Poor JK really needs a long break. I hope people will leave her alone so when she does decide to do something else it will be sooner rather than later.

I don't why people are insisting on making up these stupid things. She's not writing an 8th book, and if she was, she'd tell us... why give these idiots the attention they are so desperately craving by beleiving any of the lies they keep coming up with?

It's a shame that she isnt going to write another book on it, like an 8th one, but she does deserve a well deserved break of course.
