At the beginning of November JK announced that she had written a set of fairytales (The Tales of Beedle the Bard) for charity and on December 13th auction house Sotheby's will auction off one of the books and are expecting it to sell for £50,000 ($100,000).
According to Sotheby's web site
:
This is the most extensive Harry Potter-related autograph manuscript ever to have been offered at auction. One of the seven specially-made copies, all other copies are to be given by the author to family and those most intimately involved with the phenomenally successful series.
Details of the manuscript:
Autograph manuscript of The Tales of Beedle the Bard translated from the original runes by J.K. Rowling. Individually handwritten and extensively illustrated by the author, c.160 pages written in an Italian hand-made notebook, bound in brown morocco, and embellished with five individually hand-chased hallmarked sterling silver ornaments and mounted moonstones.
The book will be on exhibition on the following days in New York and London:
Location: New York
Mon, 26 Nov 07, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Tue, 27 Nov 07, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Wed, 28 Nov 07, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Location: London, New Bond Street
Sun, 9 Dec 07, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Mon, 10 Dec 07, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Tue, 11 Dec 07, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Wed, 12 Dec 07, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
All proceeds from the auction will benefit The Children's Voice
charity. The buyer of the book will not be given copyright and reproduction will be prohibited.

It's so sad that these are going to be auctioned, and there are only going to be about seven copies, because it means they won't be bought by true Harry Potter fans, they'll be bought be rich collectors or investors. :(

So are we never going to get to read them??? EVER?
I just figured that they would make cheaper copies of them and let people buy them.. maybe having some of those profits go to charity as well..

Well, all I have to say is that I hope that JK eventually decides to sell regular versions to us lowly peasants who can't afford to pay that much money for a book. :P It would be nice if her millions of average, dedicated HP fans had an opportunity to read the books. Oh well, life goes on. It's nice that the money is going to charity, though...

I really wish she would make copies to sell in stores so we can all see it. I think it would be another great book to do for charity. People will be wanting more Harry now that the series is official over.

Thats really lovely and all but I feel kind of mad a jo that she has made no mention of the rest of us poor old saps who don't have 100k laying around or even in the area to view it. I think that they should do some sort of "photocopy" for lack of a better word and make a book of it! I'd buy it and Jo could even donate proceeds to charity.

When will she release a "normal" version of this book for the "normal" public to read?
Not happy ... and there's no chance of most of us even being able to catch a glimpse of it as I don't live in the US or the UK ...

So some people dont seem to like it that jk didnt offer this book to us to read, but come on! That would have totally ruined it value. She wants money for cahrity and the only way to fetch a high price is if it is a rare book. I think its a fabulous idea, and as much as i'd like to read it, i'm nearly sure that it will neverbe published.

100 000 $... Hmmm... That's not a high price at all! And in December I have a school break, so.... I WILL be able to buy it. I'll just have to ask my mom (she has the money, not I)... I just hope my bet will be the highest!!!
*is distracted by his growing nose*
OK! I lied!!!
*looks at his normal nose*
That's better. God, I'm so sad we won't be able to buy the book... I mean we're not that rich to buy them, but we are all HP FANS!!!
100 000 $ is nothing compared to milions she would raise if she published them for us... Think about it. There are milions, even more HP fans, and if the price of the book is, I don't know, maybe 100$, she would be able to give money to all the charity organisations in the world (well, not all, but you get the point).
But I do admire her. She has 500 000 000 milion pounds in her pocket, but that doesn't stop her to help the poor ones.
Maybe she will publish them, after the book is sold. She's now pretending that she won't to it. Maybe she's just lying because she doesn't want the price to fall...
I hope she will say, one day after the sale: "Everyone will be able to buy a book!!!"
Hope is one marvelous thing...

Once again, I wish I was a millionaire, because I seriously want this book. I do love that it's unique, though I wish she would make dull printed copies to just so we could all enjoy her stories. Oh well.

I would love to see it. I would love to own it. Too bad it's going to be auctioned off. A rich person will of course win it and they probably won't even be a Harry Potter fan and that's the tragedy of it all.
