He'd won in 2000! That's amazing!! I hope he wins this time too. I've never heard him, but it's pretty obvious that he's brilliant!

To anyone who hasn't heard Jim Dale perform the hundreds of voices in the Harry Potter stories, you are missing the best possible experience of them. I've always read the books first, but then listened dozens of times to the audiobooks, mostly while cooking or doing dishes, going through the whole series to date each time. It was a great way to work on the clues and come up with theories for future books, by being exposed repeatedly to each event and character. Jim Dale is a master at bringing it all to life. When he does the voice of Hagrid or Dobby or a drunken Winky, or describes everyone snorting into their pudding at the Leaky Cauldron, or the terrible scene in the cave, you get a richer sense of all of it than just in your own silent reading. Many public libraries have these audiobooks, there are many websites which sell or rent them, or you can get them at your local bookstore.

Sorry. I wasn't done with that post! You may also be interested in Jim Dale's performance of the unabridged A Christmas Carolby Charles Dickens, my favoite story in the world. Also, I haven't been on HPANA for quite a while, so I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, but Jim Dale is also the narrator on the truly clever and unusual and fun TV series, Pushing Daisies, which airs Wednesdays on ABC. A busy man who deserves all the awards the world offers for a great voice and a great talent.

He hasn't won since GoF? That itself is a bit surprising. I'm hoping he wins this year. Not sure if they'll show that bit, but I'll be watching the Grammys anyway. Good luck to Jim Dale!
