Tim Roth as Prof. Snape, really Popular (4567)

Have you ever wondered who else might have been cast to play Prof. Snape in the Harry Potter movies? Well, in a recent interview actor Tim Roth opens in new windowmentioned that he had been offered the role but decided to do Tim Burton's version of Planet of the Apes.

Mr. Roth statesopens in new window:

I was going to do both films [Potter and Planet of the Apes]. We rigged it so that I could fly back and forth. They figured out the schedule but it just got to be overwhelming in my mind. My kids really liked the books. They were really into me doing it, but the idea of being an ape with Tim was too good.

I would have made [Snape] a very different guy. But in the end I think it was the right decision since Alan’s had some success with the character.

hmmm that is interesting, but I don't think anyone could do it as well as Alan Rickman does, I mean it is almost like he was born just to play Snape in the Potter films... :)

I just can't imagine anyone else playing the part of Severus Snape. That role now belongs completely to Alan Rickman.

But in the end I think it was the right decision since Alan’s had some success with the character.
Some success?? I suppose he's the only one to think that Alan has had only "some success" with the HP series!

Rickman has had "some success" with the character?? What an understatement, Alan Rickman is THE Snape! He's amazing. Perhaps the best character in the entire cast of the films. (And all of the cast is superb)...

Wow. I'd never heard this before. I can't picture this guys face at the moment but he sounds familiar. I've never seen Planet of the Apes so i don't know him from there either. I've never even thought about someone else in alan rickman's spot. He's a great Snape and I'm glad they went with him. Of course, I could be saying the same thing about another actor to if someone else had played Snape, but I don't think so. Rickman's always been Snape in my mind.

Some success? Alan Rickman IS Snape. There's no other person for the role. It's just that simple. Now that I think about it, I think Roth would have made a good Slughorn. I remember him playing a big guy on some other show too. Monk, maybe?
